What they need
Roots Coffee Lounge is looking for a skilled, experienced barista to join our team. We serve over 500 customers a week and we want someone who can step behind our machine and produce consistently excellent espresso-based drinks from day one, with a confident feel for grind, dose, milk texture and presentation.
What we need from you
● Solid, hands-on experience preparing espresso-based drinks, teas and cold drinks in a busy cafe environment
● Confident, consistent technique, including grind and dose adjustment, milk texturing and latte art
● The ability to work at pace during busy periods without compromising on quality or presentation
● A good eye for detail and pride in getting every cup right, every time
● Ability to work flexibly and confidently as part of a busy team
● Good communication skills, friendly, clear and professional with customers and colleagues
The role
Alongside drinks preparation, you'll work flexibly across the cafe, from welcoming customers and taking orders to supporting the kitchen team when needed. You'll also be part of a team that provides real employment and work experience opportunities for young people, including those with additional needs, so patience, warmth and a genuine team spirit matter here as much as your coffee skills.
Personal qualities
● Warm, friendly and welcoming manner with customers and colleagues
● Reliable, punctual and takes pride in doing a good job
● Calm under pressure and able to stay positive during a busy shift
● Patient and respectful toward all team members, including those with additional needs
● Genuine interest in being part of a community-focused organisation
Hours
We're open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, and Saturday, 8am to 2pm, with flexible shifts through the week.
Please note
You will need a Level 2 food hygiene certificate and allergen awareness training, or a commitment to obtain both before starting. Because this role involves working with young people, including those with additional needs, an enhanced DBS check with barred list check is required.
What we offer
● A friendly, supportive and inclusive team environment
● The opportunity to develop and progress to Senior Lounge Assistant over time
● The chance to be part of a community-focused organisation making a real difference in Pleasley and the surrounding area
● A workplace that values inclusion, supports young people and treats every team member with respect
We particularly encourage applications from anyone who shares our values and wants to bring their barista skills to something meaningful in their local community.
