About the role

Blind Basket Café in Takapuna is undergoing an exciting relaunch under new ownership, and we're looking for an experienced Café Cook / Chef to join our team.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident working in a busy café kitchen and can take ownership of day-to-day kitchen operations.

We're particularly interested in an experienced café cook who is organised, reliable and confident working independently.

What you'll be doing

• Opening and preparing the kitchen for service
• Preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch items
• Following recipes and maintaining consistent portion sizes
• Maintaining food quality and presentation
• Managing daily food preparation
• Monitoring stock and reducing food waste
• Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards
• Keeping the kitchen clean and organised
• Working with kitchen assistants
• Assisting with menu and recipe development
• Helping establish efficient kitchen systems during our relaunch

What we're looking for

• Previous café or commercial kitchen experience
• Ability to work independently
• Good organisation and time management
• Ability to work calmly during busy service
• Strong attention to food quality and presentation
• Reliable and punctual
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene
• Comfortable with early morning starts

Hours

Our café operates:

Monday–Friday: 6:00am–3:00pm
Saturday–Sunday: 6:00am–2:30pm

We operate 6 days per week.

The successful applicant will generally work approximately 35–40 hours per week, with the option for more hours discussed during the interview.

Early morning availability is essential.
