Experienced Diagnostic Technician/Master Technician

Job Duties

• Perform advanced diagnostic and repair procedures on late-model Mercedes Benz and/or BMW vehicles. This also includes Smart and Mini. We do not work on any other make or model.
• Diagnose complex electrical, electronic, network, drivability, and intermittent malfunctions using a systematic, test-based approach.
• Diagnose CAN-Bus and other vehicle network communication systems, including communication faults between control modules, network interruptions, shorts, open circuits, and related electrical malfunctions.
• Diagnose complicated electrical problems using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, current clamps, test equipment, and other professional diagnostic tools.
• Confidently navigate factory diagnostic software, electrical wiring diagrams, component location information, circuit testing procedures, and factory diagnostic test plans.
• Use Mercedes Benz XENTRY and/or BMW ISTA for vehicle diagnosis, control module testing, programming, coding, adaptations, and related factory procedures as required.
• Use factory work instructions and follow step by step instructions to replace/repair failed component.
• Identify the root cause of difficult or intermittent problems without relying on unnecessary parts replacement or "parts cannon" diagnosis.
• Perform advanced engine diagnostics including variable valve timing, camshaft adjuster, valvetrain, engine performance, fuel, ignition, and emissions system diagnosis.
• Be comfortable performing internal engine repairs, including timing chain replacement, timing chain component replacement, camshaft adjuster replacement, timing component repairs, and related engine disassembly and reassembly.
• Accurately set and verify engine mechanical timing following factory procedures.
• Perform complex mechanical and electrical repairs on late-model Mercedes Benz and/or BMW vehicles.
• Use factory service information to determine proper diagnostic procedures, component locations, wiring routing, connector locations, test values, and repair procedures.
• Verify repairs through appropriate testing, road testing, scan tool data, and factory diagnostic procedures before returning vehicles to service.
• Clearly document diagnostic findings, test results, root cause, and repair procedures for service advisors and customers.
• Communicate effectively with service advisors and other technicians regarding difficult diagnostic cases and repair recommendations.

MBI Motors has been in business for over 57 years and is one the most well-equipped independent Mercedes Benz and BMW repair facility in Portland. Our company offers clients an attractive alternative to the dealership in both service and in price. Our location is very conveniently located close to downtown, which attracts many clients once the warranty expires on their vehicles. We use the CDK (ADP) repair order system with the familiar technician screen as seen at the dealership. Since we do not submit warranty claims to the manufacturer, there is no need to keep track of actual hours. We perform 100% customer pay jobs and only keep track of flagged hours.

We have an authorized Xentry diagnostic tool that was purchased through Mercedes Benz. We update this tool on a regular schedule to ensure we have all the latest software, support and coding capabilities from Mercedes Benz. In addition, we also have an authorized ISTA that we keep updated from BMW with the same capabilities. We also have a multitude of special application tools purchased from the dealer. This opens up a window for a dealership level technician to seamlessly continue working on late model Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles at an independent level.

We've earned a reputation as one of the finest Mercedes Benz and BMW repair facilities in the Portland area. Working for us is a great opportunity. The entire shop has 12 lifts (including a Hunter Wireless Alignment Rack that has just been updated last month). We have a strong support team for our technician including two service advisers, two parts advisers, an office manager and a car washer. We offer full benefits and vacation pay. $120,000+ per year salary is being calculated on experience, certification and tenure. Higher end of salary range reserved for high level diagnostic technician with many years of experience. Hours of operation are between 7:30-5:00 Monday through Friday.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
