What they need

THIS IS A SALES-AND-DESIGN POSITION

  • Prospect, consult, present, handle objections, ask for the business, and close deals
  • Design and sell — consult, design, present, price, close, then shepherd the job to completion on budget and on schedule
  • Sales ability is proven by converting presentations into signed contracts, not by a separate sales title
  • We provide the studio, warehouse, vendor, and brand support behind you

Who We Are

  • Interiors by Impact and Impact Home Staging Experts have served Metro Detroit since 2004
  • Impact Home Staging Experts is the largest and oldest home staging company in Michigan, and one of the largest home staging companies in the United States
  • Hundreds of 5-star Google reviews from homeowners, realtors, and industry partners
  • Interior Designers own the client relationship from first conversation through signed agreement and finished project

How We Invest in the Brand You Will Sell

  • Awarded Best of Houzz 10 years running, 2016–2025
  • Featured in monthly print advertising in City Lifestyles (Troy and West Bloomfield)
  • Featured in monthly print advertising in Real Producers (Oakland County, Wayne County, and Macomb County)
  • Featured at the Novi Home Shows
  • Maintained marketing presence on our own website plus Meta (Instagram and Facebook), Houzz, TikTok, Pinterest, and other related platforms
  • Backed by hundreds of 5-star Google reviews
  • These channels and reviews exist so you walk into consults with a recognized local brand—not a cold introduction

What You Will Do — Sales, Prospecting, and Pipeline

  • Identify, pitch, and pursue high-potential clients: homeowners in affluent neighborhoods, realtors, builders, investors, developers, and commercial clients
  • Convert inquiries and presentations into signed projects
  • Run a consistent outreach cadence across calls, email, CRM, social, events, and in-person meetings
  • Ask satisfied clients for referrals
  • Build and maintain client and vendor relationships so repeat and referral work keeps coming
  • Qualify budget, decision-makers, timeline, style, functional needs, and scope in the first conversation
  • Design for clients who will buy
  • Own your pipeline from lead to consult to proposal to signed contract to collected retainer
  • Keep the CRM current
  • Cultivate industry partnerships that produce repeat introductions
  • Mentor junior designers or coordinate a small team when the project requires it

What You Will Do — Client Intake, Consults, Closing, and Objections

  • Lead client intake and discovery with homeowners or commercial clients: how they live or work, budget, timeline, style, and functional needs
  • Lead in-home and virtual consultations that move the client toward a decision, not just a mood board
  • Present options, refine based on feedback, and get written sign-off
  • Deliver fee proposals and cost estimates with clear visuals, scope, timeline, investment, commercial terms, and a specific next step
  • Prepare bid documents when the project requires them
  • Handle objections with composure and a plan, including price, timing, “I need to think about it,” spouse or partner, shopping other firms, and scope concerns
  • Negotiate
  • Ask for the business
  • Use a clear call-to-action and collect the retainer or deposit on the close
  • Upsell when it serves the client: premium materials, custom furnishings, lighting, home staging, and related services
  • Explain long-term value, including energy-efficient and resale-minded choices

What You Will Do — Concept, Presentation, Specification, and Sourcing

  • Listen and translate taste, lifestyle, and functional needs into a buildable plan
  • Measure the space and assess existing conditions: light, traffic flow, architecture, and applicable codes
  • Translate the brief into space plans, mood boards, sketches, CAD/3D visuals, and material boards
  • Create detailed plans in CAD, Design Files, or other industry tools
  • Use 3D visualization when it helps the client decide
  • Select finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, custom millwork, and color schemes using color theory and budget discipline
  • Source vendors, obtain pricing and lead times, and keep specifications inside the approved budget

What You Will Do — Project Coordination, Codes, and Close-Out

  • Act as day-to-day Interior Designer / Project Manager from signed agreement through installation
  • Create timelines, place material orders, and track lead times
  • Coordinate contractors—painters, electricians, carpenters, installers—and visit the site as work progresses
  • Solve problems when something is late, damaged, or out of spec
  • Research building codes, accessibility requirements, and permit needs that affect the design
  • Produce drawings and specifications trades can actually build from
  • Manage timelines and budgets without sacrificing finish quality
  • Stay on budget and on schedule through completion

What You Will Do — Social, Content, and Personal Brand

  • Actively engage our marketing team to manage Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Houzz, and TikTok as lead sources, not static portfolios
  • Assist in the creation of content that generates inquiries: before-and-afters, process shots, Reels, carousels, and project stories
  • Photograph completed work, or arrange photography, so the company and your personal brand have fresh proof
  • Use social for follow-up and relationship-building with past clients and prospects
  • Work inside the company’s existing website and paid/organic platform presence rather than building a brand from zero

What You Will Do — Client Care After the Sale

  • Maintain regular follow-up with leads and past clients so repeat work and referrals are the default
  • Be punctual
  • Professional presentation on every consult and job site
  • Represent the brand on every consult and job site

What Strong Looks Like

  • Fill your calendar
  • Discovery is documented: budget, timeline, style, function, measurements, and existing conditions
  • Presentations convert to signed contracts and collected deposits
  • Specified work stays on budget, on schedule, and buildable by the trades
  • Site issues get solved; the job is shepherded through install
  • Produce inbound interest through social media and Houzz
  • Accurate customer files in CRM
  • Clients feel guided, not pressured—and they sign

Required Qualifications

  • Self-starter who can generate work and manage projects independently or with the team
  • Impact will refer clients; you re-qualify the lead and close them
  • Minimum 5+ years in interior design or a related field, or at least 2 years owning your own interior design business
  • Proven sales ability: a track record of converting presentations into signed contracts on design, furnishings, remodeling, staging, or related commercial and residential projects—and you can speak to results (volume, conversion, or owned-practice revenue)
  • Demonstrated skill at consultative selling, presenting investment, handling objections, and asking for the close
  • Able to consult, design, present, price, close, and manage the job through completion
  • Impressive portfolio with a strong, consistent aesthetic and diverse commercial / residential work
  • Comfortable producing drawings and specs trades can build from, and coordinating painters, electricians, carpenters, and installers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Confident in person and on camera
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Detroit Metro area
  • Ability to work as a contractor and manage your own schedule and workload
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Strongly Preferred

  • Kitchen and bath design knowledge; NKBA or similar certification
  • NCIDQ, ASID, or allied professional credentials
  • Working knowledge of residential and light-commercial building codes, accessibility, and when a permit is required
  • Experience mentoring junior designers or coordinating a small project team
  • CRM fluency, with same-day activity logging
  • 3D rendering / visualization and comfort presenting on a tablet or screen in the home
  • Existing client, realtor, builder, or vendor relationships in Southeast Michigan
  • Content-creation skill: Instagram Reels and carousels, Houzz project pages, before-and-after storytelling
  • Comfort discussing project financing or pay-at-close options when they help a qualified client move forward

Compensation and What We Offer

  • Commission-based and per-project pay tied to sales and project scope
  • Posted range of $25,000–$100,000+ per year; strong closers exceed the top of the range
  • Earnings follow signed work
  • Client referrals from an established Metro Detroit brand
  • Access to a fully equipped design studio / workroom and a comprehensive materials library in Troy
  • Use of established vendor accounts
  • Support with ordering, delivery, and storage
  • Freedom to set your own schedule and own your client relationships
  • A collaborative professional environment with long-term growth potential
  • National-scale staging credentials, Best of Houzz 10 years running (2016–2025), monthly print and multi-platform magazine and digital advertising, Novi Home Shows, and hundreds of 5-star Google reviews already in market—so you inherit demand instead of creating it alone
