Experienced ISEE / SSAT Test Prep Tutor – Manhattan

Diversified Education Services is seeking an experienced ISEE and/or SSAT test preparation tutor to work one-on-one with students applying to independent schools in Manhattan and the surrounding area.

This is an in-person position. Sessions typically take place in students’ homes or at mutually agreed-upon locations such as libraries.

About the Work

We are specifically looking for a tutor with meaningful experience preparing students for the ISEE and/or SSAT. This is not an entry-level tutoring position.

Effective test preparation involves more than teaching shortcuts or test-taking tricks. The right tutor can analyze a student’s performance, identify underlying skill gaps, provide targeted instruction, improve pacing and test-taking decisions, and help the student become more confident and consistent under timed conditions.

Many DES students are academically capable and may also have ADHD, executive functioning challenges, or learning differences. The ability to adapt instruction to the individual learner is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated professional experience preparing students for the ISEE and/or SSAT
• Thorough familiarity with current ISEE and/or SSAT content, structure, timing, and question types
• Strong quantitative, verbal, reading comprehension, and writing skills
• Ability to analyze practice-test performance and identify specific areas for improvement
• Experience providing individualized, one-on-one test preparation
• Experience working with upper elementary and middle school students
• Teaching certification and/or advanced degree preferred
• Experience working with students with ADHD or learning differences is highly valued
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Professional, dependable, and comfortable communicating with families
• Willingness to travel to students within Manhattan

Experience preparing students for the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, Regents, or AP exams is a plus and may provide opportunities to work with additional students, but ISEE/SSAT expertise is the primary focus of this position.

Compensation and Contractor Structure

Compensation is $100–$110 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and depth of test-preparation expertise. Higher rates may be available for exceptional specialization.

We are looking for accomplished tutors and educators who combine strong content knowledge with the ability to establish genuine rapport with students and provide highly individualized instruction.

Tutors work with Diversified Education Services as independent contractors. Contractors control their availability and instructional methods, are responsible for their own taxes, and are free to maintain other employment and private clients.
