Part-time | 3 days per week | £28,000–£30,000 FTE, pro rata

We’re looking for an experienced optical professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a genuine flair for styling and selling beautiful, premium eyewear.

The role

This is much more than a reception or administrative Optical Assistant position.

You'll spend a significant part of your time working directly with clients, helping them choose the right frames and lenses and giving them the confidence to make the right choice.

You'll be comfortable recommending premium eyewear and lens options where they're right for the client. We're not interested in hard selling; we're interested in excellent advice, great service and creating an experience that makes clients want to return.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Styling clients and helping them select frames that suit their face, personality and lifestyle
• Advising on premium and niche eyewear
• Discussing lens options and recommending appropriate solutions
• Interpreting prescriptions and understanding how they influence frame and lens choice
• Taking accurate measurements and dispensing
• Adjusting and fitting spectacles
• Providing excellent aftercare
• Developing long-term relationships with our clients
• Helping maintain the high standards and presentation of the practice

About you

You should have experience working within optics and be confident dealing with clients independently.

You might currently be an experienced Optical Assistant, Dispensing Assistant, Optical Dispenser or Dispensing Optician.

Qualifications are welcome, but they're not essential. We're more interested in finding someone with the right combination of optical knowledge, commercial confidence and personality.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a good technical understanding of optics, frames, lenses and prescriptions
• Has previous experience dispensing eyewear
• Is confident recommending and selling higher-value products
• Has a natural eye for style, colour and proportion
• Enjoys working with people and quickly builds rapport
• Understands that premium service is about listening and advising, not pressure selling
• Takes pride in the small details that create an excellent customer experience
• Is reliable, professional and enjoys being part of a small independent team

Experience with premium or designer eyewear would be a definite advantage.

Hours & salary

Part-time – 3 days per week

£28,000–£30,000 full-time equivalent, pro rata depending on experience.
