What they need

About LeMoyen

LeMoyen, LLC is a growing industrial wood products manufacturer serving customers throughout the Gulf South. Our operation produces high-quality wood products—including industrial mats and kiln-dried and treated pine—with a strong commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

LeMoyen is seeking an experienced, safety-minded Sawyer to join our sawmill team. This is a hands-on production role responsible for operating and monitoring sawmill equipment, making accurate cutting decisions, maximizing lumber recovery, and maintaining consistent product quality.

The successful candidate will understand how saw settings, feed rates, log characteristics, and equipment condition affect yield, throughput, dimensional accuracy, and downstream production. This position works closely with sawmill supervisors, equipment operators, maintenance personnel, and downstream production teams.

Success in this role means operating safely, producing accurate and consistent lumber, minimizing waste and downtime, and helping the mill meet daily production goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely start, operate, monitor, adjust, and shut down assigned sawmill and resaw equipment
  • Evaluate logs or incoming material and make sound cutting decisions to maximize lumber recovery and product value
  • Set and adjust cutting patterns, saw positions, and feed rates according to production requirements and equipment capabilities
  • Use available scanning, merchandising, work-order, or production information to support accurate cutting decisions
  • Inspect finished material for correct dimensions, thickness consistency, wane, and other quality concerns
  • Use tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify product dimensions
  • Monitor equipment for blade wear, alignment issues, vibration, jams, unusual sounds, or other signs of mechanical trouble
  • Perform required pre-shift inspections, routine cleaning, and basic preventive maintenance within the scope of the position
  • Report mechanical, safety, and quality problems promptly to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance team
  • Coordinate with log-yard, sawmill, stacker, planer, treatment, and other downstream personnel to maintain efficient production flow
  • Confirm that product sizes and pack requirements are clearly communicated and consistently followed
  • Record or communicate production results, downtime, material issues, and quality concerns accurately
  • Operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment when properly trained and authorized
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and help control wood debris, dust, and other housekeeping hazards
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and safe material-handling practices
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous-improvement efforts

Required Qualifications

  • Proven hands-on experience as a sawyer or operator of industrial sawmill equipment
  • Working knowledge of sawmill production, cutting practices, lumber recovery, and dimensional quality
  • Ability to recognize common lumber defects and make timely operating adjustments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify or troubleshoot basic equipment problems
  • Ability to read production specifications, work orders, measurements, and equipment settings
  • Ability to perform the basic math needed to verify dimensions, calculate adjustments, and support accurate production
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe machine operation, PPE use, and established safety procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with supervisors, operators, maintenance personnel, and downstream teams
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced production environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with log merchandising or scanning and optimization systems
  • Experience operating industrial resaws, planers, stackers, or related lumber-processing equipment
  • Experience processing pine or material used in industrial wood products
  • Forklift or material-handling experience
  • Experience performing operator inspections and basic preventive maintenance

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the workday and safely perform the physical duties associated with sawmill production
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and handle tools or materials safely
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include heat, cold, dust, noise, vibration, and moving equipment
  • Ability and willingness to wear all required PPE and follow site safety rules at all times

Why Join LeMoyen?

To apply, please submit a résumé or work history describing your sawmill experience, the equipment you have operated, and your production and safety responsibilities.
