Experienced Veterinary Assistant

Starting at $18/hour — Pay based on experience and skill level

DOCS Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

We are a busy, family-owned small-animal hospital in Carson City that provides high-quality medicine while maintaining a supportive, team-oriented workplace. We are looking for someone who already has veterinary experience and is ready to be an active, dependable member of our hospital team.

What You'll Do

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with appointments, treatments, and procedures
• Safely and confidently restrain dogs and cats, including nervous or difficult patients
• Prepare patients for surgery and assist with anesthesia monitoring
• Assist with surgical procedures and patient recovery
• Obtain and process blood, urine, fecal, and other laboratory samples
• Perform in-house laboratory testing
• Fill prescriptions accurately and efficiently
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients
• Provide appropriate patient-care and medication instructions under veterinary direction
• Keep treatment, surgical, dental, and exam areas clean, stocked, and organized
• Recognize when a patient needs additional attention and communicate concerns promptly
• Work as part of a team to keep the hospital moving efficiently during busy days

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

• Has at least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience in practice
• Has strong animal handling and restraint skills
• Is comfortable assisting with surgery and monitoring anesthesia
• Can work independently while knowing when to ask for help
• Is dependable, organized, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Takes pride in providing compassionate, high-quality patient care
• Is willing to learn and continue developing their veterinary skills
• Has a positive attitude and is willing to jump in wherever needed

Schedule

Our hospital operates Monday through Friday, with no weekend hours.

This position will rotate between:

5x8 schedule: Five 8-hour shifts per week

4x10 schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week

The specific days and shift times will rotate based on the hospital's staffing needs. Applicants should be comfortable working both 8-hour and 10-hour shifts.

Hospital Hours:

Monday–Thursday: 7:30 AM–5:30 PM
Friday: 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
Saturday & Sunday: Closed
