Experienced Veterinary Assistant

Are you a skilled Veterinary Assistant who's ready to step into a surgical role — in a practice that's been part of the Lowcountry community for over 25 years? Riverwalk Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our surgical team in Ridgeland, SC.

Riverwalk has been serving the Ridgeland community since 2000, and the team we've built reflects that longevity: close-knit, collaborative, and genuinely supportive of one another. We run daily dentals and soft tissue surgery Monday through Thursday. No weekends. No on-call. Just meaningful, hands-on clinical work with a team that actually enjoys coming in every day.

We're looking for a confident, dependable assistant who can take ownership of anesthetic monitoring in the surgical suite, troubleshoot in the moment, and be a steady presence the surgical team can count on. If you have the foundational skills and the right attitude, we'll invest in the rest.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

• Coordinating with the doctor on the daily flow for surgical and dental procedures
• Calculating and preparing anesthetic medications and drug dosages
• Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia patients
• Assisting veterinarians during surgical procedures
• Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
• Monitoring patient recovery and ongoing procedural care
• Guiding clients through patient admission and discharge with confidence and compassion

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Performing anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
• Assisting in surgery
• Performing dental procedures, including prophylaxis and radiography
• Maintaining accurate, detailed medical records and treatment documentation
• Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Identifying patient concerns and supporting efficient case management across the hospital
• Building strong client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation:

• Compensation: $22.00 – $25.00 per hour, for each hour worked
• Schedule: This is a flexible position open to someone full-time or part-time position, with a full time typically offering a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday–Friday. No weekends and no on-call requirements.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

• 3+ years of veterinary technician experience
• Active and good-standing Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of SC******
• Proficiency in the following skills:
  • Patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
  • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Surgical assistance and aseptic technique
  • Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
  • Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
  • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail

**Recent graduates pending VTNE testing and licensure, or out-of-state license-holders who are eligible to transfer a license, are also encouraged to apply
