Export Control Product Classification Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Classification Specialist with a strong Engineering background and extensive expertise in export control regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing products, technologies, software, and related technical data against international export control frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting global business operations. This role requires a highly analytical professional capable of interpreting technical specifications, engineering drawings, and product documentation while applying complex export control regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct product classifications under applicable export control regulations, including U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Foreign Direct Product Rule (FDPR), De Minimis requirements, EU Dual-Use Regulations, UK Dual-Use Controls, Swiss (CH) Export Controls, Norwegian (NO) Export Controls, and Chinese Dual-Use Export Control Regulations
• Analyze technical documentation, including product specifications, technical data sheets, engineering drawings, software documentation, and manufacturing and process information
• Assess products, software, technologies, and equipment against relevant control lists and regulatory requirements
• Gather, review, and validate technical and classification information received from suppliers, engineering teams, and other internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Identify and evaluate risks associated with controlled technologies, software, manufacturing equipment, and semiconductor-related products subject to FDPR and other export control requirements
• Monitor changes in global export control regulations and assess potential impacts on company products and operations
• Provide guidance and support to internal business functions regarding export classifications, licensing considerations, and regulatory obligations
• Collaborate with international stakeholders, suppliers, and regulatory experts to resolve classification and compliance-related matters

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, Semiconductor, Software Engineering, or related field)
• Demonstrated experience in export control classification and trade compliance
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. EAR regulations, Foreign Direct Product Rule (FDPR), De Minimis calculations and assessments, EU, UK, Swiss, Norwegian, and Chinese Dual-Use regulations
• Proven ability to interpret complex technical documentation and link technical parameters to export control requirements
• Experience evaluating software, manufacturing equipment, technologies, and products that may pose export control risks under FDPR and related regulations
• Experience engaging with international stakeholders and operating within a global regulatory environment
• Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
