About the role

We are seeking an Export Import Specialist to join our Jakarta-based operations team on a full-time basis. This role is crucial to our business, as you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end import and export operations that form the backbone of our service offerings. You will be a key player in ensuring that all shipments move smoothly through customs, meet regulatory requirements, and reach their destinations on time. This position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in international trade regulations, customs procedures, and logistics coordination whilst working with a diverse portfolio of clients.

Key responsibilities

• Managing and coordinating import and export documentation, including preparing shipping papers, bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists
• Liaising with customs authorities to facilitate clearance of goods and ensuring full compliance with Indonesian and international trade regulations
• Calculating and managing duties, taxes, and applicable fees for both import and export shipments
• Communicating with clients, freight forwarders, shipping agents, and other stakeholders to track shipments and resolve any issues that arise
• Monitoring shipment status and providing regular updates to clients regarding delivery timelines and logistics developments
• Verifying the accuracy of customs declarations and ensuring all required documentation is complete and correct before submission
• Maintaining detailed records of all transactions, shipments, and customs documentation for audit and compliance purposes
• Identifying and implementing process improvements to streamline import/export operations and reduce costs
• Staying informed of changes to customs regulations, tariff classifications, and trade policies that may impact operations
• Supporting the resolution of customs disputes, appeals, or compliance issues as they arise

What we're looking for

• A minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in import/export operations or customs clearance within the logistics or freight forwarding industry
• Strong knowledge of Indonesian customs procedures, regulations, and international trade documentation requirements
• Proficiency in customs systems and logistics software, as well as Microsoft Office applications
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously
• Strong communication skills in both English and Indonesian, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders
• Understanding of Harmonised Tariff codes and commodity classifications
• Familiarity with international incoterms and trade terms such as FOB, CIF, and DDP
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Problem-solving mindset with a commitment to finding practical solutions to logistics challenges
• Previous experience with specific cargo types (containers, break-bulk, general cargo) would be advantageous
• Knowledge of air and sea freight operations is preferred
