What they need
About Us
Jumbo Seafood sources, distributes and exports premium New Zealand seafood. We supply local restaurants, retailers, in‑store and online retail customers alongside overseas partners. Our team includes specialists in seafood sourcing, supply chain and retail. Rising overseas demand means we need dedicated managerial resource to develop and run our export business.
Position Summary
This role plans, organises and manages our seafood export business. Existing administrative staff only complete basic order paperwork and have no authority for strategic planning, partner negotiation or cross- department coordination. You will liaise between local suppliers, internal teams and overseas partners to lead export strategy, ensure compliance and monitor export profitability.
Responsibilities
Research and evaluate potential overseas markets for our fresh, frozen and processed seafood. Assess market demand, competitor activity and market entry risks, to identify viable new business opportunities for the company’s existing product range.
Develop and implement export business plans, set sales targets, pricing structures and credit risk policies for export operations. Review trading performance against targets and adjust strategies in response to changing market conditions.
Select suitable seafood product lines, grading standards and export packaging for different overseas markets. Conduct high-level commercial negotiation on price, contract terms and delivery conditions with overseas distributors and key international customers.
Build and maintain long-term commercial relationships with overseas agents and buyers. Carry out regular business reviews and resolve major commercial disputes with international partners.
Co-ordinate with local seafood suppliers, internal processing teams and cold chain teams. Align raw material supply, processing capacity and logistics resources to meet export order requirements without impacting domestic market supply. Ensure all export consignments follow HACCP standards.
Oversee export regulatory compliance. Make sure all shipments meet MPI export rules as well as food safety import requirements of destination countries. Manage export certifications and related documentation to avoid cargo detention risks.
Monitor sales, cost and profit performance of the export business. Prepare regular performance reports for the Company Director and identify opportunities to increase export revenue and control operating costs.
Manage international freight arrangements and supervise preparation of export documents including commercial invoices, packing lists and health certificates. Resolve complex shipment issues and escalations from overseas clients.
Balance inventory allocation between domestic sales and export orders using business and stock data, to prevent stock shortages for either local or international customers.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or higher in International Business, International Trade, Management in Purchasing or Business-related fields.
If the educational requirement is not met, a minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in export business development, overseas partner negotiation and export profitability management.
Proven ability in overseas market assessment, commercial negotiation, export pricing planning and business performance report preparation.
Professional English-language skills for client communications, compliance documents and team management.
Practical experience coordinating cross-functional teams across supply, processing and logistics for export operations.
Why Join Us?
1. Become a core member of our growing seafood-supply team.
2. Manage full-cycle export operations with independent decision-making rights.
3. Work with experienced industry specialists in a supportive team culture.
4. Enjoy full NZ statutory benefits and long-term career opportunities.
