What they need
About ArtVanSince 2004, ArtVan has brought free, community-based, group art therapy programs directly to communities. Traveling in a brightly painted van stocked with art supplies chosen for specially designed themes, our staff meet youth, adults and seniors where they are, running consistent weekly sessions that use art-making to encourage creativity, self-expression, and community connection and healing. What started as a small, grassroots effort has grown into an organization serving communities including Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Freeport, Portland, Westbrook, Lewiston, Auburn, Rumford, and Mexico.
Position OverviewThe Expressive Arts Therapist/Program Assistant (EATPA) works alongside the Program Director and other staff to plan, co-facilitate, and support all direct service programming. This includes helping participants explore art as a tool for expression, growth, and healing, as well as supporting relationships with community partners. The EATPA also contributes to storytelling, documentation, and social media content that shares the impact of ArtVan’s work. This role also involves participating in and occasionally leading events, networking in community as well as assisting with other activities necessary to support and advance our mission. Collaboration with all staff is essential.
As a mobile organization, ArtVan does not offer a traditional 9-5, office-based role. This position requires a willingness to be flexible, travel and work directly in communities we serve, including Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Freeport, Portland, Westbrook, Lewiston, Auburn, Rumford, and Mexico.
