External Reporting Manager

A large, publicly traded global organization is seeking a Manager of Financial Reporting to lead external reporting, oversee complex technical accounting matters, and drive improvements across its financial reporting function.

This role partners closely with corporate accounting, finance, legal, tax, treasury, investor relations, and business leadership. The position offers significant visibility with senior stakeholders, team leadership responsibilities, and involvement in key accounting and reporting initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation, review, and filing of quarterly and annual SEC reports, current reports, and other required financial disclosures.
• Oversee pension-related financial reporting, including preparation, review, and coordination of external audits.
• Monitor regulatory developments and evaluate opportunities to enhance financial disclosures and reporting practices.
• Collaborate with investor relations on quarterly earnings materials and external financial communications.
• Research complex accounting matters, develop technical accounting documentation, and maintain corporate accounting policies.
• Evaluate and implement new accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on areas such as stock-based compensation, earnings per share, debt, and hedging activities.
• Oversee lease accounting activities and collaborate with centralized accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Coordinate with external auditors and support the annual audit and quarterly reporting cycles.
• Lead initiatives focused on reporting efficiency, process automation, internal controls, and financial systems improvements.
• Oversee reporting deliverables, including electronic filing requirements, and support special accounting projects as needed.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members while managing performance and supporting career growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Active CPA license required.
• 6+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience.
• Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, U.S. GAAP, and technical accounting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical accounting documentation.
• Proven project management skills and ability to meet demanding reporting deadlines.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or developing accounting professionals.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Excel and the ability to leverage financial systems and reporting technology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in both public accounting and a publicly traded corporate environment.
• Familiarity with financial reporting and consolidation platforms such as Workiva or OneStream.
• Experience supporting reporting transformation, process automation, and accounting policy implementation.
• Background overseeing centralized or shared-service accounting teams.
