What they need

At Oceanic Controls, our customers are at the centre of everything we do.

Our reputation has been built on technical expertise, responsiveness and a genuine commitment to helping customers solve complex operational challenges. We don't see ourselves as product salespeople. We see ourselves as trusted partners who deliver practical solutions and outstanding service.

We're looking for an experienced External Sales Engineer who combines strong technical capability with a passion for building relationships, solving problems and creating exceptional customer experiences.

If you're someone who enjoys being in front of customers, understands industrial environments, and takes pride in delivering solutions that make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

This is a field-based role responsible for developing and growing customer relationships across Queensland and supporting customers operating in the Oil & Gas, Mining and Industrial Processing sectors.

You'll work closely with customers to understand their operational needs, provide technical guidance, identify opportunities for improvement and deliver solutions that support reliability, safety and performance.

This role combines technical problem-solving, relationship management and business development. While maintaining and growing existing customer relationships is a key focus, you'll also identify and convert new opportunities to support the continued growth of the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Conducting regular customer visits, site inspections and stakeholder meetings.
  • Understanding customer challenges and identifying practical, value-added solutions.
  • Providing technical advice and product recommendations.
  • Preparing quotations, proposals and follow-up activities.
  • Managing opportunities and customer interactions through the CRM system.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure exceptional customer outcomes.
  • Identifying and developing new business opportunities within existing and emerging markets.
  • Supporting sales growth and achieving business development objectives.
  • Representing Oceanic Controls professionally and maintaining a customer-first approach at all times.

About You

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with customers and has the technical credibility to build trust and deliver practical solutions.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A trade qualification or strong technical background in a mechanical discipline.
  • Experience in technical sales, account management, field service or a customer-facing industrial role.
  • Exposure to valves, control valves, safety relief devices, pressure management equipment or similar mechanical products.
  • Experience within Oil & Gas, Mining, Industrial Processing, Manufacturing or related industries.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using CRM systems.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach and a desire to consistently exceed customer expectations.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

While engineering qualifications are welcomed, we are equally interested in candidates who have developed a strong technical foundation through a trade or hands-on industrial background.

Travel

This role involves regular travel throughout Queensland to visit customer sites, build relationships and support project and business development activities. Occasional interstate travel may also be required.

Why Join Oceanic Controls?

Oceanic is a business built around great people and exceptional customer service.

You'll be joining a highly engaged, knowledgeable and collaborative team that genuinely enjoys working together and supporting each other's success. We offer an environment where people are trusted, contributions are valued, and growth is encouraged.

As the business continues to grow and diversify, you'll have genuine opportunities to expand your skills, take on new challenges and build a rewarding long-term career.

If you're looking for a role where you can make an impact, develop strong customer relationships and work alongside great people who are passionate about what they do, we'd love to hear from you.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary package (circa $150,000pa, dependent on experience)
  • Car allowance
  • Profit share opportunities
  • Established customer base and strong industry reputation
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture
  • A stable, long-term opportunity within a business focused on sustainable growth
  • A diverse role combining technical expertise, customer engagement and business development
