Lead Fabricator / Welder – Austin Awning Company (Lockhart, TX)

Austin Awning has been building custom awnings and shade structures in Central Texas since 1996, and we’re looking for an experienced lead fabricator to run metal fabrication at our Lockhart shop. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled welder who takes pride in clean work, knows how to keep a shop moving, and wants to help train the next generation of fabricators.

What we work with
We fabricate in both aluminum and steel, from light-wall tubing (.062") up to 1/2" material. Candidates should be comfortable across that range and will complete a hands-on weld test.

What you’ll do

• day-to-day fabrication, problem solving, inventory of tubes
• Read and interpret shop drawings and blueprints, and work with our drafting and sales teams to resolve questions before material gets cut
• Fabricate and weld aluminum and steel structures (MIG, spool gun, stick), including cutting, fitting, grinding, and shaping
• Inspect finished work for accuracy, fit, and weld quality before it leaves the shop
• Train and mentor entry-level fabricators and helpers (where applicable)
• Keep the shop safe, organized, and well-maintained, including tools, equipment, and safety gear
• Track material usage and job progress so we can stay on budget and reorder stock on time
• Load and unload material and finished frames using a forklift and other equipment
• Support installation crews as needed

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience in both aluminum and steel
• Ability to weld everything from thin-wall tubing to 1/2" plate
• Ability to build skeleton frames out of 1" square tubing
• Ability to solve complex junctions/compound miters at slope etc
• Experience rolling or bending tubes (1"-2" square) for arched structures
• Strong blueprint reading and layout skills
• Experience leading, training, or directing others in a shop setting
• Forklift experience
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to solve problems without waiting to be told
• Valid driver’s license preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
