What they need

Facilities & Building Systems Technician

Location: 425 Industrial Drive, Lexington, NC 27295, with routine travel to nearby RCR facilities

Job Type: Full-time

Reports To: Steve Hartzog, Maintenance Supervisor/Facilities Manager

A Day in the Role

You start at our Lexington campus, reviewing overnight maintenance requests. By mid-morning, you’re replacing filters and checking controls on an air handler, then heading across town to a sister site to chase down a tripping breaker and bring a production space back online. After lunch, you swap a leaking valve, repair a door closer, and log your work orders. You coordinate a vendor visit for a specialty task, tidy your work area, and brief the Facilities Manager on upcoming preventive maintenance. Some days run long—urgent calls don’t always keep business hours—but the satisfaction of safe, reliable facilities makes it worthwhile.

What You’ll Do

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems—electrical, HVAC, and plumbing—within your qualifications.
  • Diagnose wiring, lighting, outlets, breakers, controls, motors, and equipment connections; complete approved repairs and installations.
  • Service heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment; perform seasonal PM (filters, coil cleaning, control checks).
  • Repair leaks, drains, fixtures, water heaters, and pumps; conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Handle general facility repairs (doors, windows, ceiling tiles, fixtures, minor structural fixes).
  • Maintain and repair facility equipment and machinery across multiple nearby sites.
  • Support construction, renovations, and remodel activities as needed.
  • Respond to maintenance requests, identify root causes, and communicate plans and status to the Facilities Manager and affected teams.
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintenance records; keep tools, equipment, and workspaces organized.
  • Collaborate with teammates and coordinate external contractors when specialized support is required.
  • Follow safety procedures and use required PPE at all times.
  • Participate in occasional evening/weekend on-call coverage and work overtime when necessary.

About You

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or trade certification is a plus.
  • 3+ years in facilities/building maintenance with hands-on experience in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability; can read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Understands building/trade codes and knows when to engage licensed specialists.
  • Clear communicator with solid organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who follows direction and works well both independently and on a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for inter-site travel.

Construction experience and additional trade skills in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing are preferred. Relevant licenses/certifications are valued. RCR supports technicians with strong fundamentals who want to expand their skills.

Working Conditions

Work occurs indoors and outdoors year-round, including around operating machinery and in noisy, hot, cold, or confined spaces. Expect frequent bending, stooping, crawling, ladder use, and regular use of hand/power tools. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay is commensurate with experience. Eligible full-time employees may enroll in medical, dental, and vision coverage; receive paid time off and holidays; and participate in the company’s 401(k) plan per applicable policies and plan terms. Opportunities for trade training and professional development may be available.
