Facilities and Grounds Technician

Are you a hands-on problem solver who enjoys working with tools, maintaining buildings, and keeping outdoor spaces looking their best? The Sheridan County YMCA is looking for a dependable, motivated Facility & Grounds Technician to help maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and functional spaces for our members, staff, and community.

What You'll Do

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across YMCA facilities and program locations.
• Maintain outdoor grounds, including mowing, trimming, irrigation checks, snow removal, and general landscaping.
• Complete basic plumbing, electrical, painting, and custodial tasks within appropriate training and safety guidelines.
• Conduct facility walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and repair priorities.
• Monitor pool and spa chemical levels.
• Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and snow removal machinery.
• Assist with room setups, equipment moves, special events, and seasonal maintenance projects.
• Keep tools, equipment, and workspaces clean, organized, and well maintained.
• Communicate completed work, maintenance concerns, and repair needs to the Facilities Director.
• Support the YMCA's annual maintenance closure and assist with general facility needs as needed.
• Follow YMCA safety policies and procedures while helping create a safe environment for everyone.

What We're Looking For

• Preferred: At least one year of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, landscaping, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of minor plumbing, electrical repairs, and custodial tasks.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently across multiple locations.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more and perform physical work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work a swing or split shift.
• A dependable, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to maintaining safe, welcoming facilities.

Training & Professional Development

Required training includes alarm and emergency procedures, CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention. Training must be completed within the required onboarding period and renewed as applicable. Ongoing skills development, staff meetings, and required YMCA training are also part of the role.

Team members are expected to uphold YMCA policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, report safety concerns and suspected abuse as required, and help protect the well-being of everyone we serve.
