What they need
What to Expect
Tesla's Houston solar manufacturing plant is currently in the design phase, and getting the engineering right now will determine how reliably and efficiently it runs for years to come. You will lead facilities engineering for the entire plant, covering utilities, gas and chemical systems, and process infrastructure, reporting into the site's senior facilities leadership. In this role, you will go deep into facility design reviews, working through drawings, specifications, and system details with the Design team before they're finalized, then carry that technical ownership through sustaining operations and follow-on projects. Your work ensures plant systems are engineered to be safe, reliable, and ready to scale as production grows.
What You'll Do
- Lead the facilities engineering team supporting the solar factory, including central utilities, process piping, gas and chemical yards, and building systems
- Conduct deep technical reviews of facility and infrastructure designs with the Design team, evaluating drawings, specifications, and system details for layout, capacity, redundancy, and maintainability
- Own facilities engineering in sustaining operations, including reliability, troubleshooting, and upgrades
- Lead engineering for bulk gas and chemical systems, including storage, offload, distribution piping, and abatement
- Lead engineering for plant utilities, including UPW, wastewater treatment, chillers, cooling towers, process cooling water, compressed dry air, HVAC, makeup air, and exhaust
- Partner with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and EHS on production and hazardous production material needs
- Conduct risk assessments and simulations for toxic and flammable gases, corrosive liquids, and high-pressure systems
- Hire, mentor, and develop facilities engineers, working closely with vendors to manage scope and schedule for facilities engineering projects
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience in facilities design, facilities engineering, or Operations, including 3+ years leading a team
- Deep hands-on experience with facility design review, including drawings, specifications, and system-level technical detail, not just high-level oversight
- Experience with CAD and fluid or process tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or ANSYS
- Working knowledge of EHS and process safety standards, such as NFPA, ASME, or SEMI
- Experience supporting facilities in high-tech manufacturing, such as solar, semiconductor, or pharmaceutical
- Track record of delivering complex facilities projects on time and within budget
- Ability to work in active manufacturing and construction areas, around hazardous materials, and in required PPE
