Facilities Maintenance Technician

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a reliable, capable, and self-motivated Facilities Maintenance Technician / Handyman to help maintain and care for a diverse group of privately owned properties and facilities located in and around Millbrook, New York.

The properties include a main residence, guest house, barns, shop buildings, a multifamily residential property, aircraft hangars, and office space. Each property has its own building systems, equipment, and ongoing maintenance requirements.

The most important part of this position is the ability to maintain building systems, troubleshoot problems, and handle smaller repairs before they become larger issues. We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, understands how buildings and their systems work, and is comfortable diagnosing and resolving everyday maintenance problems.

We are not looking for a specialist in one particular trade. We are looking for a well-rounded maintenance professional who can troubleshoot a problem, make an appropriate repair when it is within their capabilities, and recognize when a specialized contractor is needed. This is also a team-oriented position — the right candidate must be good with people, communicate well, and work effectively with other employees, contractors, vendors, tenants, and property occupants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitor and maintain building systems and equipment across multiple properties
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections
• Troubleshoot and resolve smaller mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general facility issues
• Identify problems early and take appropriate steps to resolve them
• Perform light carpentry and basic electrical work
• Handle general building repairs and maintenance
• Maintain doors, locks, fixtures, lighting, hardware, shelving, and other building components
• Help maintain systems such as HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, pumps, generators, water systems, doors, gates, and other building equipment
• Coordinate with outside contractors and specialized trades when work is beyond the scope of the position
• Meet contractors and vendors on site and help ensure work is completed properly
• Obtain materials, parts, and supplies as needed
• Keep tools, shops, maintenance areas, and workspaces clean and organized
• Maintain basic records of repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and upcoming maintenance needs
• Assist with other facilities and property projects as needed

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is someone who notices when something is not working properly, takes the time to understand the problem, and works toward a practical solution. Candidates should have:

• 3+ years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance, property maintenance, construction, a skilled trade, or a similar hands-on position
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Experience maintaining and repairing a variety of building systems and equipment
• Ability to handle smaller repairs independently
• Experience with light carpentry and basic electrical work
• Comfort using common hand and power tools
• A preventative-maintenance mindset rather than simply reacting when something breaks
• Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple maintenance needs
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
• Comfort interacting professionally with employees, contractors, vendors, tenants, and property occupants
• Good judgment regarding which repairs can be handled internally and when a licensed or specialized contractor should be brought in
• Basic comfort using a phone or computer to track work, maintenance schedules, photos, receipts, and open items
• Professionalism, discretion, and respect for private residences and property
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision

REQUIREMENTS

• Full-time availability
• Must be able to work on-site in Millbrook, New York
• Valid driver’s license
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to perform the normal physical requirements of a hands-on facilities maintenance position

This is a full-time, regular facilities maintenance position with varied work across multiple buildings and properties. The right person will have significant independence while also working closely with a broader team.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
