Unity of Charlottesville is an open and inclusive spiritual community dedicated to Love-in-Action. We are seeking a dependable, experienced, hands-on Facilities & Property Manager to care for our three-building campus and 4.5-acre property.
This position is well suited to a retired or semi-retired handyman, contractor, maintenance professional, facilities manager, or experienced tradesperson seeking meaningful, flexible part-time work.
What You’ll Do
- Inspect buildings and property and respond to maintenance concerns.
- Perform minor repairs and handyman work, including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, caulking, hardware, and similar tasks.
- Monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, roofs, grounds, parking, sidewalks, drainage, and other facilities.
- Coordinate contractors for specialized work such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, tree work, and pest control.
- Meet contractors on site, obtain estimates as needed, coordinate access, and monitor completed work.
- Maintain a simple maintenance log and preventive-maintenance schedule.
- Track significant repairs, service records, warranties, and upcoming maintenance needs.
- Help keep our sanctuary, banquet hall, commercial kitchen, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and other spaces safe and functional.
- Communicate significant maintenance needs and recommended expenditures to church leadership.
This is a hands-on maintenance and coordination position, not a janitorial role.
Qualifications
- Experience in handyman work, building maintenance, construction, facilities management, or a related field.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and good judgment about when to call a professional.
- Dependable, trustworthy, self-directed, and comfortable working independently.
- Good communication skills and professionalism with contractors, staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Comfortable using basic hand and power tools.
- Reliable transportation and ability to safely perform routine maintenance tasks.
Retired and semi-retired applicants with substantial relevant experience are especially encouraged to apply.
Schedule & Compensation
- 10–15 hours per week, averaging approximately 15 hours depending on facility needs.
- Flexible schedule arranged with the successful candidate.
- Occasional additional hours may be available for approved projects.
- $26–$30/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Part-time, hourly position; not a 24-hour on-call position.
How to Apply
Please submit a brief description of your relevant experience, general availability, and 2–3 references familiar with your maintenance, construction, facilities, or property-management work.
