What they need
Facilities Manager
Lead people. Take ownership. Make things happen.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, proactive Facilities Manager to join the Leadership Team at Amesbury Abbey. Set within a beautiful Grade I listed building, Amesbury Abbey is an award-winning care home, rated Good in every category by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The company has also been recognised as one of Carehome.co.uk’s Top 20 Care Home Groups.
We are looking for a confident manager who will take responsibility for the effective running of our facilities, ancillary and catering services. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a hands-on maintenance position: you must be able to lead people, set standards, plan ahead and ensure things get done.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Managing Director and working as part of the Leadership Team, you will lead approximately 8 employees across maintenance, housekeeping, gardening and catering. You will ensure the buildings, grounds and services are safe, well maintained, compliant and efficient, creating an excellent environment for residents, visitors and staff. You will also work in partnership with the Facilities Manager at our sister location, Sutton Manor.
What you will be responsible for
· Leading, supporting and developing teams; setting clear expectations, managing performance and addressing issues promptly.
· Taking ownership of operational priorities, spotting problems early and following actions through to completion.
· Planning and overseeing preventative and reactive maintenance, contractors, suppliers and improvement projects.
· Maintaining health and safety standards, statutory compliance, risk assessments and safe working practices.
· Managing departmental resources and budgets, controlling expenditure and identifying efficiencies without compromising quality.
· Carrying out regular inspections, monitoring standards and implementing practical improvements.
· Working constructively with the Leadership Team, residents, colleagues and external bodies.
What we are looking for
· Proven experience in facilities, estates or building management, with direct responsibility for managing and developing teams.
· A track record of making decisions, using initiative and taking accountability without constant direction.
· Confidence in dealing with underperformance, staff supervision, appraisals and other people-management matters.
· Strong planning, prioritisation, problem-solving and communication skills.
· Experience managing budgets, contractors and maintenance or capital projects.
· Sound understanding of building compliance and health and safety legislation, including fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos and electrical safety.
· An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
Experience in a care environment, listed buildings or catering operations, and a relevant building or maintenance qualification, would be advantageous. Familiarity with rota and time-and-attendance systems such as People Planner is helpful but not essential.
The person we need
You will recognise what needs doing, decide on the right course of action and ensure it happens. You will be comfortable challenging poor standards, developing your team and finding better ways of working. If you enjoy responsibility and want to make a visible difference, we would welcome your application
