Facilities Mechanic — Job Description

Position Summary

The Facilities Mechanic keeps our production facilities and their building systems running safely and reliably. The role handles preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, irrigation, and climate-control systems. This position works independently, prioritizes urgent repairs, and helps minimize downtime during peak production periods.

Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Manager
Location: Ripon and Hickman, CA (travel between sites required)
Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on facility systems, including heating, ventilation, cooling, fans, motors, pumps, and environmental controls.
• Diagnose and repair electrical problems: motors, controls, switches, breakers, contactors, relays, timers, and lighting.
• Install, repair, and maintain wiring, panels, and circuits up to 480V, three-phase, following applicable codes.
• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation and water systems, including pumps, valves, filters, and plumbing.
• Maintain and repair structures, doors, vents, shade and curtain systems, and related drive mechanisms.
• Read and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Respond to after-hours and emergency repair calls as needed.
• Keep maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory current.
• Follow lockout/tagout and all safety procedures; flag hazards promptly.
• Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors on larger repairs or installations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• 3+ years of experience in facilities, industrial, or agricultural maintenance.
• Hands-on electrical experience, including troubleshooting motors, controls, and single- and three-phase power.
• Ability to read schematics and use a multimeter and other electrical test equipment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems: pumps, motors, gearboxes, belts, and bearings.
• Basic plumbing and welding/fabrication skills.
• Valid California driver's license.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities.

Preferred

• Electrical certification, trade school, or apprenticeship training.
• Experience with HVAC, environmental control systems, or PLCs.
• Experience with irrigation systems or backflow devices.
• Bilingual English/Spanish (highly preferred).

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, dust, and wet conditions.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
• Work safely on ladders, lifts, and elevated structures.
• Use hand and power tools, test equipment, and welding equipment.
• Wear required PPE and follow posted safety protocols, including restricted-entry intervals in treated areas.

Pay and Schedule

Pay range: $26.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: [Days/hours]; overtime, weekends, and on-call coverage required during peak seasons
