Job Summary

The Facilities Services Specialist – Night Shift keeps the mall clean, safe, and fully operational during non-business hours. Operating exclusively within a retail mall setting, this role oversees overnight deep cleaning, checks essential building machinery, manages delivery dock access, and handles basic repairs across high-use areas like escalators, restrooms, food courts, and main walkways. They ensure the property is fully prepped, secure, and ready for shoppers before stores open each morning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Walk the property overnight to inspect and perform basic repairs on doors, glass railings, seating areas, signs, and lighting.
  • Conduct visual checks on core facility systems, including air conditioning units, power panels, water lines, and pumps.
  • Perform basic checks on escalators, elevators, and moving walkways, reporting issues so technicians can fix them before opening.
  • Check drainage lines and food court waste traps overnight to prevent clogs and backups into store spaces.

Store & Delivery Supervision

  • Oversee overnight contractor work inside stores, ensuring work crews follow safety rules, noise limits, and cleanup guidelines.
  • Direct overnight delivery bay traffic, trash collection, and recycling to keep loading docks clear for morning deliveries.
  • Assist with turning utilities on or off for stores undergoing scheduled overnight repairs.

Deep Cleaning & Mall Appearance

  • Inspect night cleaning crews to ensure common hallways, entrance doors, food courts, and public restrooms are thoroughly cleaned.
  • Supervise or run floor-scrubbing and power-washing equipment on main walkway tiles and outdoor entrances.
  • Ensure all public areas, including play zones, seating, and directory boards, are clean, working, and ready for customers.

Safety, Security & Shift Handover

  • Check all emergency exit doors, alarm panels, and safety signs to keep walkways clear and compliant with safety codes.
  • Audit night lockup procedures across exterior doors, back hallways, roof doors, and service corridors.
  • Log completed jobs, utility readings, contractor visits, and any issues into the maintenance tracking software.
  • Pass clear notes and updates to the incoming morning facilities team at the end of the shift.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic Facility Maintenance: Practical understanding of general upkeep for commercial buildings, including basic repairs, heating/cooling systems, and plumbing.
  • Property Safety Knowledge: Understanding of workplace safety standards, fire exit rules, and proper chemical handling.
  • Night Shift Reliability: Ability to work independently overnight while staying alert, focused, and organized.
  • Crew & Contractor Supervision: Strong communication skills to guide night cleaning staff, security personnel, and outside workers.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to handle sudden overnight issues like leaks, minor outages, or door jams quickly and calmly.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, trade certificate or vocational training in building maintenance, electrical, or plumbing is a plus.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in general building maintenance, ideally in shopping malls, retail centers, or large public venues.
    • Experience working night shifts in property operations.
  • Practical Skills: Comfortable using basic maintenance tools, floor-cleaning machinery, and mobile work order apps.

  • Physical Requirements: Able to walk long distances across the mall, stand for long periods, lift heavy equipment
