• Location: South Jakarta (hybrid), with regular time at their assembly partner in Cikarang and travel overseas.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a venture-backed Indonesian electric motorcycle company preparing for its first production launch. The product is developed, the first customer batches are sold, and the company has signed with an assembly partner in Cikarang. Battery cells, motors and controllers come from suppliers in China; the battery management system is built in-house in Jakarta. Homologation and local-content certification are in progress.

THE ROLE

This is a new, senior role. Production has not started yet, and there is no in-house factory: the vehicle will be built through a third-party assembly partner, with parts sourced from China and Indonesia.

You will own the entire manufacturing operation end to end: production, supplier and procurement management, planning and logistics, quality, cost, and after-sales readiness. Today these sit between the engineering team, the procurement team and the CEO. You will take them over, build the department, and run it.

This is a Head-of-Department role reporting directly to the CEO, with a budget to hire your own team. It needs someone who has run a plant before, and who is comfortable running production through a partner rather than owning the building.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Production

• The production plan, build schedule and output at the assembly partner, from pilot builds through start of production to steady-state volume

• Line set-up, assembly sequence, work instructions, takt and efficiency at the partner's facility

• Build-readiness gates and release criteria for each batch

Suppliers and procurement

• Supplier selection, pricing, terms, lead times, MOQs and warranty back-to-back with suppliers in China and Indonesia, together with the procurement team

• Supplier quality: quality agreements, part approval, audits, corrective action

• Regular visits to supplier sites in China

Planning, logistics and cost

• Material planning for batch production with 2–3 month import lead times

• Inbound logistics, customs, warehousing and inventory accuracy

• Landed vehicle cost, BOM cost and working capital, reported to the CEO

Quality and compliance

• Incoming, in-process and end-of-line quality at the partner, and final vehicle release

• Traceability for vehicles, batteries, controllers and other critical parts

• Homologation, local-content (TKDN) certification and vehicle registration, with the relevant agencies

After-sales readiness

• Service, spare parts and warranty set-up before first customer deliveries

• Field-failure feedback loop into engineering, production and suppliers

Team

• Hire and lead the manufacturing operations team and grow it with volume

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN 12 MONTHS

• First customer batches delivered on time, built at the partner to the agreed quality

• Supplier agreements, quality system, traceability and change control in place and working

• Homologation and local-content certification secured

• Clear monthly visibility of output, cost, inventory and quality for the CEO

• Service, spare parts and warranty operating before deliveries

• A small team in place and running the daily operation without the CEO

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required

• 12+ years in automotive, motorcycle, EV, battery or complex electromechanical manufacturing

• Bachelor's degree (S1) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or another engineering discipline

• You have run a plant or factory operation end to end as Plant Manager, Head of Factory, Factory GM or equivalent, with production, quality, planning/logistics and maintenance reporting to you

• You have managed an organisation of 100 or more people, with department heads or section heads reporting to you

• You have owned plant cost, budget or P&L and reported it to a managing director, CEO or board

• You have personally led a new model or new product launch into mass production

• You have owned supplier or procurement decisions: selection, pricing, terms and corrective action, not only coordination

• Fluent professional English (the CEO and CTO are not Indonesian speakers)

• Willing to spend most of your week at the partner plant and at supplier sites

Strong advantages

• Mandarin Chinese (business level)

• Motorcycle or two-wheeler manufacturing

• Electric vehicle, battery pack, BMS or motor controller production

• Experience running production through a contract manufacturer or third-party assembler

• Homologation, TKDN or vehicle registration experience in Indonesia

• An established OEM background followed by a startup, new plant or new business unit

• Experience with suppliers in China

This role is probably not for you if

• Your background is quality only, engineering only, or planning and logistics only, without having run the whole plant

• You have led launches as a project manager but have never owned the production operation afterwards

• You need an in-house factory, large specialist departments and established systems to be effective

• You prefer managing through dashboards rather than being on the floor and at suppliers
