Failure Analysis Engineer / Senior

Objectives and scope of the job

The FA Engineer is responsible for identifying root causes of electrical failures in production and customer returns. The role serves as the primary technical bridge between Production and the Customer Functional Team (CFT). The objective is to maintain high quality by detecting issues early during NPI and ensuring all repairs meet the required Manufacturing Lead Time (MLT).

Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Main tasks

• Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform detailed troubleshooting on PCBA failures to identify component or process-level defects using Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, and schematics.

• Engineering & CFT Bridge: Act as the technical point of contact for the Customer Functional Team (CFT).

  • Escalate design-related findings to the Manufacturing Engineer (ME) for customer / R&D feedback.
  • Escalate equipment or software-related issues to the Test Engineer (TE).

• NPI Support: Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase by analyzing early-build failures to detect potential mass-production issues before full-scale release.

• KPI Management & Reporting: Data-mine failure results using Excel to prepare bi-monthly KPI reports for management review. Track metrics such as failure trends, top defect contributors, and yield loss.

• Manufacturing Lead Time (MLT) Control: Oversee and drive the FA team to ensure all units are analyzed and repaired within the MLT target.

• Technical Guidance: Provide training and updated troubleshooting guides (standard work instructions) to FA Technicians and Repairers.

• Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring failure patterns in Excel and suggest process optimizations to the production team to reduce overall scrap and rework.

Basic Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering or Master’s Degree in a related field.

Further Education

Training in PCBA Troubleshooting & Soldering standards. or IPC-A-610 / IPC-7711/21 Certified.

Experience

3 - 5 years of experience in Failure Analysis or PCBA Production.

Language Skills

Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in using Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, and LCR meters.
• Ability to read and interpret complex Electronic Schematics.
• Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, formulas) for data analysis.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform microscopic inspection and manual rework/probing.
