Fall 2024 Substitute Teacher Position

Job Title: Substitute Teacher

Primary Purpose The substitute teacher is responsible for managing an assigned classroom, carrying out appropriate learning activities, and following lesson plans developed by the classroom teacher to ensure that students' education is not disrupted during the classroom teacher of record's absence.

Qualifications Education/Certification :

Bachelor's degree (Degreed Substitute Teacher) OR High School Diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

Experience Working With Children Preferred. Flexible and able to adjust daily routine.

Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.

Terms Of Employment Substitutes are employed on an at-will basis and are not considered contractual employees.

Fees There is a fingerprinting fee (approximately $50.00) associated with this application process.

Salary Non-Degreed $90 day (daily assignments)

$125 day (long-term assignments)

Degreed $105 day (daily assignments)

$125 day (long-term assignments)

Certified $115 day (daily assignments)

TBD (long-term assignments)

Major Responsibilities And Duties Instructional Strategies

• Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, and emotional development of children.
• Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and board policies.
• Administers the lesson plan left by the classroom teacher.
• Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate administrator immediately.
• Reports to the office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary.
• Completes evaluation at the end of the day, checks out with authorized personnel prior to leaving at the end of the day.
• Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Student Growth and Development

• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
• Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

• Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Communication

• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress.

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media

equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
