Interested in farming and working with animals?
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking person to join our small, friendly team at Mayfield Eggs, a family-run free-range egg farm near Witney.
Whether you're looking for your first job in agriculture, have experience working with animals, or are already an experienced farm worker, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
Previous farming experience is not essential. What matters most is a genuine interest in farming, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
This is a practical, hands-on role involving a variety of jobs around the farm. We're looking for someone who enjoys being active, takes pride in their work and would like to become a valued, long-term member of our team.
What does the job involve?
Working alongside our Farm Manager and wider team, your responsibilities will include:
- Checking our free-range hens and monitoring flock health and welfare
- Collecting eggs and completing daily production routines
- Cleaning and disinfecting hen houses, equipment and farm buildings
- Maintaining outdoor ranges, including grass cutting and general upkeep
- Moving equipment and preparing hen houses for new flocks
- Carrying out basic maintenance and repairs around the farm
- Supporting egg grading and packing in our packing centre when required
- Following hygiene, food safety and biosecurity procedures
- Helping with other general farm duties as required
What is working on a farm really like?
We want applicants to have a realistic understanding of the job.
Farming can be extremely rewarding, but it also involves hard work. This is a physically demanding role, with time spent outdoors in all weather conditions. Some jobs are dirty, repetitive or involve manual labour.
Cleaning hen houses, collecting eggs and maintaining equipment are all important parts of the working day. There are routines that must be completed reliably, and we're looking for someone who is happy to get stuck in, whatever the task.
If you enjoy being active, working outdoors and seeing the results of your efforts, this could be a great opportunity.
Who are we looking for?
We'd particularly like to hear from people who have a genuine interest in agriculture, farming or working with animals.
You don't need to have worked on a farm before, but you should be enthusiastic about learning and comfortable with the practical nature of the work.
The qualities we're looking for include:
- A genuine interest in farming and working with animals
- A strong work ethic and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
- Reliability, punctuality and a responsible attitude
- Enjoyment of practical, physically active work
- A willingness to work outdoors throughout the year
- The ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
- A positive attitude and ability to work well with others
- Basic numeracy skills
Previous farming, poultry or livestock experience would be an advantage, but full training will be provided for someone with the right attitude.
We're hoping to find someone who will enjoy becoming part of our team and wants to stay with us for the longer term.
