Fiber Cabling Engineer (Data Center)

Location: Bracknell, Berkshire

Employment: Permanent

Salary: £38,000-£44,000 + Van

Shifts: Mon-Fri Days 08:00-16:00

UK Travel when required

About the Role

TGS International are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Centre Engineer to join our client’s team in Bracknell. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting critical data centre operations, focusing on structured cabling, hardware installation, and infrastructure audits. This role comes with excellent opportunities for progression, with a clear salary growth pathway all the way to Technical Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Rack and stack servers, network devices, and storage hardware.

Accurately read and follow patching schedules.

Deliver patching work to an exceptionally high standard.

Audit, document, and improve existing hardware and cabling layouts.

Install, terminate, and test Cat5e/6/6a and fibre structured cabling systems.

Support the design and planning of new data centre deployments.

Contribute to large-scale data centre migration projects.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

3+ years’ experience in structured cabling and patching.

3+ years’ experience in data centre environments (ideally within DC Operations).

Relevant cabling certification (CNCI, BTEC, City & Guilds, or BICSI).

Deep knowledge of cabling installation best practices and testing (copper & fibre).

Skilled in using testing equipment: OTDR, Fluke, Network Analyser, VFL.

Strong understanding of CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, OM3/OM4, OS2 cabling systems.

Hands-on experience in installation, termination, and testing of copper and fibre

Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding ability using industry-standard tools.
