Fiber Optic Communication (FOC) Engineer – Traffic Systems

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Communication (FOC) Engineer with 2–3 years of experience to support our Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Urban Traffic Control (UTC) projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks used in traffic signal interconnects, CCTV systems, vehicle detection, and related ITS infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic cables used for traffic signal controllers, ANPR/CCTV, VMS, and other ITS devices.
• Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to validate link performance and ensure low-loss connectivity across intersections and roadside cabinets.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber faults, including damage from civil works or environmental factors, minimizing system downtime.
• Coordinate with traffic signal engineers and control room staff during integration and commissioning phases.
• Update and maintain fiber route maps, splicing records, and test reports as per project standards.
• Ensure compliance with local authority specifications, safety standards, and quality procedures.
• Support upgrades and expansions of existing traffic fiber networks, including temporary diversions during construction works.
• Assist with integration of fiber-linked devices into central UTC/SCOOT or ATMS platforms.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or Degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in fiber optics within traffic or ITS projects.
• Experience working with CCTV, VMS, or radar detection systems.
• Valid driving license and willingness to perform site visits and fieldwork.

Key Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with OTDR, fusion splicers, light source/power meters.
• Understanding of fiber optic network topology in a roadside/urban traffic context.
• Good documentation and communication skills for coordination with contractors, consultants, and local authorities.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to on-site fiber faults quickly and efficiently.
