What they need
Fiber Splicer - Your Splices Carry Someone's Whole Internet
A drill crew can put a mile of fiber in the ground, and none of it counts until your splice passes light. We're looking for a splicer who treats every tray like it matters - because on our jobs, it does. We can sharpen technique. We can't teach the patience to re-do a splice that "probably would have passed."
Nova Underground (Lawrenceville, GA) bores and places fiber for carriers and fiber providers across Georgia. We're standing up dedicated splicing to run behind our own construction crews - which means your work follows a build we control, not someone else's mess.
What you'll do:
Fusion splice single-mode fiber: backbone, distribution, and drops
Build and close splice cases: trays dressed right, loops stored right, cases sealed right the first time
Test and document: OTDR shots and power-meter readings on every splice, turned in the same day - your documentation is the customer's proof
Work aerial and underground plant: handholes, vaults, pedestals, strand
Coordinate with our drill and placement crews so splicing never becomes the bottleneck
What you must have (we can't train these on this timeline):
2+ years fusion splicing experience (tell us which splicers you've run - Fujikura, Sumitomo, INNO, etc.)
You can read a splice diagram / cut sheet and follow it exactly
OTDR experience: you can shoot, read, and save a trace - and you know what a bad one looks like
A driving record clean enough to be insurable
The kind of pride where a marginal splice bothers you until it's fixed
What earns you more:
Splice case certifications (Corning, CommScope, Preformed)
Aerial experience and comfort in a bucket
Experience turning in carrier-grade closeout documentation
The ability to train a helper - we grow our own here, and teaching pays
What we offer:
Steady program work behind our own construction crews - the splice trailer doesn't sit waiting on someone else's build
A written sign-off system: you always know where you stand and what gets you to the next dollar
A small company where the owner knows your name and your loss readings
Straight talk: this is field splicing in Georgia - trailers, tents, vaults, heat, and night cuts when a customer needs them. If you only want a lab bench, this isn't your job.
Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Benefits:
- On-the-job training
- Opportunities for advancement
Application Question(s):
- Which fusion splicers and OTDRs have you used? (brands/models - e.g. Fujikura, Sumitomo, INNO)
- Have you built and closed splice cases yourself (not just watched)? Yes or No - and briefly describe the last case you closed.
- You shoot an OTDR trace and one splice reads high, but you're the last crew on site and everyone wants to go home. What do you do?
- Do you have reliable transportation to a Lawrenceville, GA area yard each morning? Yes or No.
- Are you able to pass client site-access requirements (background check, drug screen, E-Verify)? Yes or No.
Experience:
- fusion splicing: 2 years (Required)
Work Location: In person
Other offers great for you!
