This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor. The position is located at the Moneta, VA Office in Bedford County.

Fiber Engineers I &II are entry and journeyman level positions that will continue your career and further develop skills that are light years ahead of your friends and family. This position is responsible for fiber splicing, troubleshooting installation the final product of what ZiTEL offers, High speed fiber optic Internet service at the customer’s home or business.

ZiTEL offers excellent pay and benefits and you are paid weekly, pay rate is DoE.

General Requirements:

• Must be able to communicate tactfully & effectively both face-to-face and remotely over the phone with both customers and company personnel.
• Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Previous experience with Fusion Splicing is a must.
• Experience with Distributed split /GPON Fiber design and documentation.
• Experience with installing and servicing home or business video, internet and phone services is preferred.
• Able to demonstrate basic PC/tablet skills using basic software applications like email and web browsers.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP protocols and Ethernet networking practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Splice Fiber optic cable in Pedestals and Handholds for butt splices, distribution cans, with 1x4 and 1x8 splitters.
• Test fiber with an ODTR meter.
• Install and repair fiber internet services for residential and business customers.
• Installs and repairs all require wiring/cabling and hardware required to support all services. This may include fiber and Ethernet cabling.
• Program and configure digital home and business networking and WiFi services and assist customers with configuration of their home equipment and electronics.
• Operates and maintains all field tools, which includes climbing devices, ladders, hand and power tools, test equipment, laptops/tablets and network meters.
• Observes all company safety procedures at all times, including VDOT and OSHA.
• Will be expected to support on-call rotation and periodic weekend work may be required.
• Working conditions include climbing, working in attic crawl spaces, working at heights and driving across service territories in a company vehicle.

Qualifications

• Education: Minimum: High School Diploma / GED - required: some Community College or technical training– preferred.
• The ability to travel throughout multiple states as needed may be required.
• 3 to 5 years previous experience in installation for utilities or Information Technology, Cable TV or Fiber preferred.
• Current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for up to the past 5 years is required.
• Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner per OSHA standard.
• This position requires significant time standing or walking on uneven ground, possible climbing ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding.
• Work in an all-weather environment is required.
• Must be able to lift heavy material.
