About Orthos
Orthos Liquid Systems is a leading provider of specialized filtration equipment and systems for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout North America. Our products include filtration underdrain systems, filter nozzles, air scour systems, washwater troughs, and other engineered filtration solutions.
We are a growing company focused on delivering high-quality equipment and technical expertise for critical water infrastructure projects.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, technically capable Field Construction & Commissioning Engineer to join our team. This individual will serve as Orthos' primary field representative during equipment installation, startup, and commissioning at water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout North America.
The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, construction, or mechanical equipment installation, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
This is not a traditional office engineering position or a construction project management role. Instead, you will work directly with contractors, consulting engineers, and plant operators to ensure Orthos equipment is installed correctly and operates as designed.
The position requires frequent travel, with most site visits lasting approximately 2–4 days rather than extended assignments at a single construction site.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as Orthos' primary on-site technical representative during equipment installation, startup, and commissioning.
- Review construction drawings, technical specifications, and installation procedures to prepare for field assignments.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors on proper equipment installation methods and requirements.
- Inspect equipment installations to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and company standards.
- Identify installation deficiencies, troubleshoot field issues, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and Orthos' engineering team.
- Perform equipment startup, commissioning, operational testing, and performance verification.
- Coordinate with general contractors, consulting engineers, municipal representatives, and plant operators to facilitate successful equipment installation and operation.
- Prepare field service reports, inspection documentation, punch lists, and commissioning records.
- Train plant personnel on equipment operation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Provide technical feedback to engineering and project management teams to support product improvements and resolve field challenges.
- Support warranty inspections and post-installation technical service as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent relevant construction or field experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Preferably 3–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, municipal water/wastewater infrastructure, mechanical equipment installation, field engineering, or related industries.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical understanding of construction methods and equipment installation.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience working directly with contractors, engineers, and construction personnel.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to represent the company professionally on active construction sites.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and make sound technical decisions in the field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to prepare clear technical reports.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Familiarity with mechanical equipment installation, piping systems, filtration systems, or related process equipment.
- Experience performing construction inspections, equipment startup, commissioning, or performance testing.
- Previous experience serving as a field engineer, construction engineer, field service engineer, or technical representative for an equipment manufacturer.
Why Join Orthos?
At Orthos, you'll have the opportunity to work on important water infrastructure projects throughout North America while being part of a growing, specialized engineering and equipment company.
Unlike traditional construction positions that may require spending months at a single project location, our field assignments are generally short in duration, typically lasting 2–4 days. This provides the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, meet different engineering and construction teams, and gain exposure to a wide range of treatment facilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving construction challenges, traveling, and taking ownership of their responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable on a construction site, capable of understanding technical drawings, confident working with contractors, and motivated to ensure our equipment is installed and operating correctly.
