Field Engineer – Heavy Civil / Excavation

Onyx Corporation is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join our heavy civil and excavation team. This is a hands-on position supporting Project Managers in the field and providing an opportunity to grow your career in construction with a family-owned company.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers with daily field operations.
• Review plans, specifications, elevations, grades, and construction details.
• Assist with excavation, grading, drainage, utilities, and sitework activities.
• Track project quantities, production, materials, trucking, and equipment.
• Maintain daily reports, project documentation, photographs, and field records.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, change orders, and project cost tracking.
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and project teams.
• Identify field issues and help develop practical solutions.
• Monitor work for quality, safety, and compliance with project plans.
• Participate in project meetings and assist with scheduling and coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• Construction or field experience preferred; internships considered.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with HCSS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GPS/GNSS, or similar construction technology is a plus.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
