What they need
Flanders keeps some of the most advanced autonomous equipment in Australian mining running, including the ARDVARC Autonomous Drill System (ADS). We're looking for a Field Service Engineer to provide expert support, maintenance and continuous improvement of the ADS across our operational sites.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role, FIFO out of Perth to the Solomon hub, operating on a 14:14 roster.
You'll support drill controllers on site, keep ADS standards aligned across multiple locations, and work closely with our Autonomous Drill System specialists to implement improvements as they're developed. You'll coach and upskill site-based maintenance teams in best-practice use of the ARDVARC system, attend Activity Status Report (ASR) meetings to drive performance, and take part in after-hours breakdown support as part of our 24/7 coverage model. Day to day, you'll manage software updates and backups, maintain accurate records and daily shift logs, and help identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that keep the fleet performing at its best.
You'll report to the Field Service Manager and work closely with site stakeholders, customer maintenance teams and Flanders' broader technical network.
About you
We're after someone who's as comfortable diagnosing a fault as they are explaining it to a customer. You'll bring a problem-solver mindset, stay calm under pressure during breakdowns, and know when to work independently and when to escalate. You see this role as more than a job – it's a genuine pathway into a technical specialist or leadership career, and you're motivated to keep building your skills along the way.
The successful candidate will have:
- An Australian-recognised Engineering degree or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics (or other relevant discipline)
- Proven experience troubleshooting and diagnosing faults in electromechanical processes (PLC); experience with Studio5000 highly regarded
- Auto-electronic experience
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a Field Service Engineer role
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, automation and autonomous mining equipment
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with client maintenance staff (fitters and electricians) and explain technical issues clearly
- The resilience and flexibility to work an 14/14 FIFO roster, including after-hours and on-call support as required
- A customer-focused, team-first approach and a willingness to coach and upskill others
- Computer and network literacy, with the ability to work through moderate to complex software and IT issues
You'll also need to meet pre-employment requirements including a medical assessment and drug & alcohol screening, and hold a current Australian driver's licence.
