Field Service Engineer

SCHMID Group is currently in search of a Field Service Engineer or Field Service Technologist for its our USA subsidiary SCHMID Systems, Inc. (SSI). This position acts as an advocate for the company providing worldwide customer service on-site or remotely.

General scope of duties includes machine installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of PLC and PC-controlled systems primarily in our proprietary industrial machines within the wet chemical processing industry as well as automation technology.

International travel is required. This is a full-time hourly position with limited supervision. SSI Provides full-time employees different options for benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Flex, 401k, and more.

Responsibilities:

§ Works within established procedures associated with the specific job function as directed by supervisor or manager in the functional area.

§ Will conduct functional tests and parameterizations of subcomponents and complete systems.

§ Must be able to support machine final acceptance by the customer.

§ Must retrofit existing systems to meet new product requirements.

§ Able to trouble shoot malfunctions by analyzing and eliminating the cause of error in a structured manner.

§ Must be a self-starter and works independently.

§ Travel to customer sites alone or as part of a Field Service team.

§ Establish and maintain a clean and safe work area following 5S practices.

§ Responsible for organization and storage of tools, equipment, and part inventory.

§ Summarize work activities, collect data, and send clear and concise e-mails as necessary.

§ Provide remote customer support via email, phone, and TeamViewer.

§ Ensure safety practices are followed and maintained including near-miss reporting.

§ Wear appropriate clothing and PPE as needed whenever potential hazards exists.

§ Ensure certifications are current (LOTO, ARC-Flash, Fork-lift, Respirator, etc.).

§ Will assist with the setting or positioning to secure machinery.

§ Assist in other areas deemed necessary by Technical Service Manager or Managing Director to help achieve optimum company goals.

§ Submit credit card statements including receipts on time each month to Accounting for audit tracking.

§ Reports to Technical Service Manager of SSI.

Requirements:

§ Must have at least 3 years of experience in field service.

§ Has practical experience in special machine construction and automation technology.

§ Experience in mechanics and pneumatics.

§ Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings/blueprints/diagrams.

§ Ability to setup, operate, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software systems in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

§ Experience with high voltage electrical, hazardous materials, thermal systems, and computer and PLC based control systems helpful.

§ Familiarity with semiconductor or Printed circuit board equipment or other large complex electro-mechanical systems.

§ Ability to lift over 50 pounds and wear respiratory protection as required.

§ Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain a positive and cooperative attitude while interfacing with customers and colleagues.

§ Possess a continuous improvement mindset and challenges the norm is highly preferred.

§ Ability to use Microsoft Office programs on a beginner to intermediate level, especially Excel Word, and Outlook.

§ Associate degree is preferred

§ Working knowledge of SAP.

§ Must have or be able to obtain a passport for international travel.

§ Ability to travel up to 75% of the time worldwide.

Preferred requirements:

§ Has an engineering degree in the field of automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or comparable field.

§ Resilient and convincing personality with strong customer service.

§ Team oriented.

§ Knowledge of German and / or Chinese (Mandarin) is a plus.

§ Enjoys working in global teams.

Pay: From $40.00 per hour
