POSITION PURPOSE
The primary responsibility of a Field Service Technician (Road Technician) is to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair compact and heavy equipment on-site at customer locations and job sites, operating a company-provided service truck to travel throughout the assigned service area with the highest regard for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
YOUR PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
- Travel to customer job sites and field locations to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Bobcat, Develon, Manitou, Gravely, and related compact/heavy equipment (hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, diesel systems), operating a company service truck as your mobile shop.
- Safely operate and maintain the service truck, including pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, fluid checks, and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Coordinate with Parts to request and stage all parts and materials required for field repairs, minimizing customer downtime and repeat trips.
- Partner with Warranty Administration to verify coverage and complete repair documentation per OEM/vendor requirements.
- Complete detailed write-ups for all work orders in the field, including diagnostics performed, corrective actions, parts used, and labor times.
- Perform repairs safely and efficiently on location, following shop procedures, manufacturer service information, and all applicable driving and vehicle safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service truck and tool inventory, ensuring the vehicle and equipment are ready for the next call.
- Support rentals, pre-delivery inspections, and customer demos on-site as needed to keep customers and fleets working.
- Other duties as assigned to support our customers and team.
YOUR KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND MORE
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school or 3+ years of equivalent experience preferred.
- Proven problem-solving, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills across hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to use OEM service information, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins.
- Excellent communication skills (oral/written) and computer literacy for service software and digital work orders.
- Ability to read and interpret industry terminology and OEM documentation; ASE or OEM certifications are a plus.
- Own a basic hand/tool set suitable for equipment service; specialty tools and the service truck are provided by Ironhide Equipment.
- Demonstrated professionalism and respect toward coworkers and customers; acts as an ambassador of the Ironhide brand while representing the company on the road.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required, or otherwise eligible under Ironhide Equipment’s basic DOT driving requirements; this role requires regular operation of a company service truck for local and regional travel.
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing and comply with ongoing/random DOT-eligible drug and alcohol testing requirements as a condition of employment.
- Comfortable working independently at customer sites with minimal direct supervision, while staying in close communication with the shop and dispatch.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds frequently and maneuver heavy components with proper equipment.
- Operate in a fast-paced environment with frequent standing, bending, climbing, and use of hand/power tools.
- Work in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, wind, dust) during field service calls and sit for extended periods while driving between job sites.
