Field Service Technician

Viridan Group is seeking an experienced Energy Storage Field Service Technician.

The technician will be contracted to a leading battery energy storage owner and IPP and will support the commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of two utility-scale battery energy storage projects in Texas. This role involves work on equipment including Power Conversion Systems (PCS), batteries, substations, fire alarm control panels, cabinet-level HVAC systems, SCADA, and communications equipment.

This is a full-time contract role with the opportunity to move to a permanent position in early 2027. The benefits package includes hourly pay, per diem, overtime, mileage, and other benefits.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair PCSs, batteries, controls, SCADA, communications systems, and ancillary equipment.
• Support hot and cold commissioning, pre-commissioning, energization, de-energization, switching, clearance, and start-up activities.
• Perform firmware and software updates, hardware upgrades, battery charging and discharging activities, SOC checks, and component-level diagnostics.
• Investigate plant performance issues, PCS issues, utility grid transients, equipment alarms, and BESS system faults.
• Interpret schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, test procedures, work orders, and OEM maintenance requirements.
• Prepare and complete maintenance reports, Job Safety Analysis reports, Plan of the Day (POD)/tailgate meeting documentation, work permits, quality checklists, deficiency reports, and other required field documentation.
• Coordinate with customers, contractors, SCADA engineers, Asset Managers, logistics, finance, engineering, commercial teams, and program management teams to support safe and reliable plant operations.
• Participate in on-call weekend service coverage and work overtime or non-standard hours as required.
• Ensure contractors follow site standards, submit required reports, and perform work in accordance with company expectations.
• Support compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA and NFPA requirements.
• Comply with site-specific safety requirements, work permits, LOTO procedures, hazard assessments, PPE requirements, and emergency response procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 4+ years of experience working with Power Conversion Systems, battery energy storage systems, power electronics, electrical systems, or related renewable energy equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, basic troubleshooting, and equipment operating characteristics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Valid driver’s license
• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience is preferred
• Experience with utility-scale BESS, substations, MV transformers, Power Conversion Systems from EPCP, Samsung, CATL, Fluence, SMA, Power Electronics, Sungrow, Eaton, TMEIC, Solectria, or similar equipment is preferred
• NFPA 855 familiarity is preferred

Travel

• On-site work is expected to be up to 80% depending on project pipeline assignments and corrective maintenance needs.
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, on-call rotations, and non-standard hours as required by field conditions, commissioning schedules, outages, or emergency maintenance needs.
