What they need
Job Summary
Triumph Cabling Systems is a Houston-based low voltage contractor. We install structured cabling, fiber, and underground infrastructure for commercial, education, and public sector clients. We are growing in Austin and need an experienced superintendent to keep our jobs running right in the field.
The Field Superintendent is the eyes and ears of our project managers. You will run the field side of every active project: crews, quality, materials, schedule, and documentation. You will catch problems early, hold work to our standards, and keep the PMs informed every day.
Key Responsibilities
Crews and Daily Coordination
- Manpower: Know who is assigned to each job every day, verify attendance, and make sure labor is used efficiently.
- Foreman coordination:Talk with each foreman daily about progress, problems, material needs, and the next day’s plan. Set clear expectations and verify that goals are met.
- Daily PM update: Give a short daily update on each active project: manpower, work completed, status, problems, material needs, schedule concerns, and the plan for tomorrow.
Site Visits, Quality, and Safety
- Jobsite visits: Lead the initial site visit with the foreman or lead technician, visit active projects regularly to check the work in person, and complete the final walkthrough with the customer.
- Quality control:Inspect cable routing, supports and J-hooks, terminations, racks, patch panels, labeling, grounding and bonding, firestopping, and overall workmanship.
- Testing: Make sure copper and fiber are tested correctly, failed tests are corrected, and all results are saved in the correct project folders.
- Safety: Make sure technicians follow PPE, ladder, lift, vehicle, and general jobsite safety requirements.
Scope, Schedule, and Cost
- Prints and scope: Read all RFPs, specifications, and scope documents. Make sure crews work from the latest drawings and understand what is in Triumph’s scope.
- Progress tracking:Track completed work and labor against the project estimate, and report any differences to the PM.
- Change orders:Identify work outside the original scope before crews perform it, and notify the PM right away.
- Schedule: Know upcoming deadlines, inspections, cutovers, walkthroughs, and turnover dates. Keep crews on track and report potential delays early.
- GC and customer coordination:Handle routine field coordination with the general contractor and customer. Keep the PM informed of scope, cost, or schedule changes and customer concerns.
Materials and Equipment
- Materials: Make sure crews have enough cable, jacks, faceplates, patch panels, hardware, labels, and supplies. Report shortages before they stop production.
- Returns: Review materials stored at each jobsite regularly. Return anything no longer needed promptly (within 30 days when possible and inside the supplier’s return window) so we receive credit. Do not wait until the end of the project.
- Tools and equipment: Do not leave extra materials, tools, or ladders on jobsites. Work with the PM and warehouse to decide what is returned, moved to another project, or kept onsite.
Documentation and Closeout
- Photos and documentation: Use our project software to document progress, above-ceiling work, completed work, and any issue that could lead to a dispute.
- As-builts: Make sure foremen mark drawing changes as the work happens, not at closeout.
- Punch lists:Track punch-list items and personally verify every correction is complete.
- Closeout:Help finish testing, labeling, as-builts, warranties, photos, and open corrections before crews leave the project.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of low voltage or structured cabling experience, including time as a lead, foreman, or superintendent
- Strong knowledge of copper and fiber installation, termination, and testing (Fluke or similar)
- Working knowledge of TIA standards and the NEC requirements that apply to low voltage work
- Able to read drawings, specifications, and scopes of work and hold crews to them
- Comfortable correcting a crew when work isn’t right, and fair in how you do it
- Organized, dependable, and a clear communicator with PMs, GCs, and customers
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Preferred: BICSI certification, OSHA 10 or 30, and experience on commercial, education, or government projects
Our company is an equal employment opportunity company with a drug free work place. We have a healthy work/life balance and truly work as a close team.
