What they need
Role Overview
RYENT builds and deploys American-made towable sensor and security trailers, including the KMI International Defense, Responder, and Mobile Command Center series, for public safety, counter-UAS, critical infrastructure, and major events. Each platform carries a mission stack: cameras, radar, RF detection, communications, and solar and battery power.
The Field Technician turns a bare trailer into a mission-ready platform. You will mount, fabricate, wire, test, and troubleshoot that equipment in the shop, then keep it running in the field. This is a hands-on role for someone who can take a build sheet (or a whiteboard sketch), work it to completion with little to no oversight, and leave behind a clean, labeled, serviceable install.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Integration
Install and integrate trailer payloads: PTZ and fixed cameras, radar, RF and cUAS sensors, cellular and satellite communications, NVRs, lighting, speakers, and strobes.
Fabricate and mount brackets, enclosures, mast hardware, and cable management. Measure, drill, tap, cut, and grind to fit.
Build and terminate 12/24/48V DC power systems, including solar charge controllers, battery banks, and inverters.
Run, dress, and label cable to a standard another tech can service without guessing.
Work from build sheets and wiring diagrams. When none exist, document what you built with photos, as-builts, and labeling.
Test & Troubleshoot
Bench and functionally test every unit before release: power budget, camera views, network connectivity, and remote access.
Diagnose electrical, network, and hardware faults using a multimeter, laptop, and vendor software. Repair or swap components to restore service.
Handle basic network setup: IP addressing, PoE switches, and cellular router configuration.
Field Service
Tow, deploy, level, raise masts, and retrieve trailers at customer sites, events, and incident scenes.
Perform preventive maintenance, battery health checks, firmware updates, and cleaning on deployed and staged units.
Respond to service calls and bring offline or degraded units back up, often without a second set of hands.
Shop & Operations
Keep the shop, tools, and parts inventory organized. Track parts usage and flag reorders before they become a delay.
Log work orders, time, and parts in RYENT’s operations platform.
Work safely: PPE, ladder and lift safety, lockout on energized systems, and safe towing practices.
Qualifications
Required
2+ years of hands-on work in low-voltage, security or CCTV installation, electrical, automotive/RV/marine electrical, vehicle upfitting, telecom, or equivalent military technical experience.
Confident with hand and power tools: drills, impact drivers, angle grinders, saws, crimpers, and a multimeter.
Reads diagrams and understands power fundamentals.
Self-sufficient. Owns a task from start to finish with little to no oversight, and knows when to raise a flag.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders and at height, kneel and crawl, and work outdoors in Michigan weather.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Comfortable towing trailers, or willing to be trained.
Able to pass a criminal background check.
Preferred
Experience building or servicing mobile surveillance trailers, emergency vehicle lighting, or upfit packages.
MIG welding or light metal fabrication.
Experience with IP cameras, VMS, PoE, and cellular routers.
Off-grid solar and lithium battery system experience.
FAA Part 107 certificate, or interest in cross-training into RYENT drone operations.
Schedule & Work Environment
Part-time with flexible hours, driven by the build and deployment schedule. Room to grow as volume increases.
Primarily shop-based, with field work across Michigan and occasional regional travel.
Some evenings and weekends to support events and time-sensitive deployments.
Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5.0 – 32.0 per week
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- On-the-job training
- Opportunities for advancement
