What they need
About the Role
We are seeking a versatile, technically strong finance professional to join our client's team in Bangkok. Operating within a fast-paced global retail trading and distribution MNC, this role strikes a balance between rigorous financial control, inventory and commercial compliance, and strategic business partnering.
You will manage local statutory reporting, tax compliance, and reconciliation, while serving as a key financial advisor to local leadership, regional stakeholders, and the Regional CFO. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Thai accounting and tax regulations with strong retail/distribution commercial acumen and cross-functional communication skills.
Key Responsibilities & Allocation
- The responsibilities for this role are approximately allocated as follows (indicative and subject to variation during peak periods such as budgeting, audits, and retail inventory counts):
Reconciliation & HQ Reporting (30%)
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly closing, financial reporting, and P&L reviews, tailored to retail trading and distribution metrics.
- Manage data reconciliation between QuickBooks and the ERP.
- Act as the primary financial liaison for communication with HQ Controlling and the Regional CFO.
Thai Tax, Transfer Pricing & Audit Compliance (20%)
- Oversee compliance with Thai accounting standards and tax regulations (CIT, VAT, WHT, and customs/import duties relevant to distribution).
- Manage transfer pricing documentation and policies for cross-border stock and goods movements.
- Coordinate and lead annual financial audits, and liaise with external auditors, tax authorities, and logistics/trade compliance teams.
Business Partnering & Commercial Support (20%)
- Provide commercial insights on retail margins, supply chain costs, inventory holding, and pricing strategies.
- Drive the annual budgeting, rolling forecasting, and sales-versus-cost analyses.
- Translate complex financial results into clear, actionable insights for non-financial retail and commercial stakeholders.
Financial Control & Governance (15%)
- Strengthen internal controls, specifically around inventory management, warehouse accounting, trade spend, and receivables/payables.
- Monitor financial risks, and ensure adherence to local and global MNC corporate governance policies.
Systems, BI & Projects (10%)
- Participate in finance systems optimisation, Business Intelligence (BI) reporting dashboards, and supply chain/ERP integration projects.
General Support (5%)
- Perform other duties and general finance support as required.
Key Selection Criteria
- The client will evaluate candidates primarily against the following three criteria:
- Monthly Reporting & Reconciliation: Proven track record in delivering accurate, timely monthly reporting packages within a trading, distribution, or retail environment. Hands-on experience with reconciliation (specifically QuickBooks, and CCH Tagetik preferred) and strong communication skills with HQ and regional executives.
- Thai Accounting, Tax & Compliance: Comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of Thai statutory accounting, corporate taxation, transfer pricing guidelines (especially regarding cross-border distribution flows), and audit management.
- Commercial & Business Partnering: Strong business acumen in a trading/retail setting, with the ability to partner with sales and supply chain teams, analyse product margins, and actively contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and commercial growth.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification is highly preferred).
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in financial accounting, controlling, and business partnering, specifically within a retail, trading, or distribution MNC environment.
- **Technical Skills:**Solid proficiency in QuickBooks and consolidation/reporting tools (CCH Tagetik or similar ERP/EPM tools). Experience implementing SAP is an advantage. Strong grasp of inventory valuation, trade spend accounting, and Thai tax/import regulations.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both Thai and English. Ability to bridge the gap between technical accounting, inventory operations, and strategic business execution.
- In the Technical Skills section, the original text read “consolidation/reporting tools like or similar ERP/EPM tools,” with a word missing. I assumed it meant CCH Tagetik, as it’s named in the selection criteria. Please correct it if another tool was intended.
