Nova is part ofTodd, one of New Zealand’s oldest family businesses and a key player in New Zealand’s energy transition, is on a mission to continue what it’s been doing forover 140 years – contributing to New Zealand’s prosperity. Our core businessinvolves the production and sale of natural gas and electricity to supply a diverse****range of customers, including wholesale, large industrial, commercial, and residential. We are at the forefront of the energy transition, committed to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions with new investment in renewable energy.

As we continue to expand our portfolio and explore new growth opportunities, we're looking for a Finance & Investment Associate to join our Business Development team.

About the role
Reporting to the Finance & Investment Lead, you'll work across the full investment lifecycle, gaining exposure to renewable energy developments, strategic growth opportunities and operational generation assets.

This role offers a broad mix of investment, commercial and asset management experience. You'll work alongside specialists across development, engineering, finance, legal and operations, building a deep understanding of how opportunities are assessed, funded, delivered and managed over time.

Key responsibilities:

  • Evaluate renewable energy projects, acquisitions and strategic growth opportunities through financial modelling, valuation and commercial analysis.
  • Develop business cases, investment papers and recommendations that support major capital investment decisions.
  • Support project development, due diligence, financing activities and transaction processes from initial assessment through to delivery.
  • Provide financial and commercial insight to support partnership discussions, commercial negotiations and key project agreements.
  • Monitor the performance of operational assets, identifying opportunities to improve value, optimise returns and support long-term portfolio growth.

About you
You bring a sharp commercial eye, natural curiosity, and a genuine interest for finding the story behind the numbers. Rather than just running models in isolation, you actively probe assumptions, ask constructive questions, and collaborate with technical specialists to ensure financial accuracy.

You communicate complex concepts with ease, feel comfortable adapting to shifting project timelines, and take genuine pride in producing clean, reliable analysis that executive teams can trust.

What you bring to the team:

  • Tertiary degree in finance, economics, commerce, engineering, or accounting (progress toward or completion of CA, CPA, CFA, or MBA is advantageous).
  • Experience within corporate finance, project finance, transaction advisory, infrastructure, energy, or investment management.
  • Advanced financial modelling and valuation capability in Excel, grounded in a strong understanding of project economics and commercial contract structures.
  • Practical exposure to utilities, project development, or energy technologies (such as solar, wind, BESS, or geothermal), with knowledge of the New Zealand electricity market and regulatory setting would be beneficial, but not essential.

What We Can Offer You

  • Competitive remuneration with a discretionary performance-based bonus.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Access to our employee discount scheme, offering savings on electricity, natural gas, broadband and mobile services.
  • Employee discount programme (Todd Perks), free eye checks, discounted gym, fuel savings and other services.
  • Generous leave provisions, including 3 days office closure leave and the ability to purchase more leave if needed.
  • Enhanced parental leave for new parents, including top-ups of government parental leave payments for primary carers & additional leave provision for partners.
  • Annual health checks, mole maps, flu vaccinations and mental health support with Clearhead.
  • In-house leadership and development programmes, coaching and mentoring available and support for external studies.
  • Fun Cultural Calendar & social club activities

More about the office.
Our teams are based across New Zealand. This role can be based either in Wellington which is home to the corporate teams of Todd and Nova Energy, or New Plymouth where our engineering capability sits. This role can be based in either location.

You’ll work closely with people across Finance, Legal and Corporate Affairs, as well as Todd Energy, giving you exposure to the full commercial and technical context behind our investment decisions.
