About Us

Make-A-Wish Singapore grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses, bringing hope, strength and joy to children and their families.

Behind every wish is careful planning and responsible management of the funds entrusted to us. Our Finance & Admin team supports sound financial management and the smooth running of our office, helping colleagues focus on granting wishes.

Job Description

About the Internship

If you enjoy working with numbers and want to understand how finance supports a charity’s work, this internship offers practical experience beyond the classroom.

You will support day-to-day finance operations, help organise and maintain data, and assist at fundraising events. You will see how donations are accounted for and how different teams work together to make wishes possible.

Finance will be the main focus of your role, alongside event and administrative support.

What You Will Gain

  • Practical finance experience: Apply your knowledge to invoices, claims, transaction checks and month-end work.
  • An understanding of charity operations: Learn how financial controls and accurate records support responsible stewardship of donor funds.
  • Experience working across teams: Develop your spreadsheet and organisational skills, and build confidence working with colleagues, volunteers and event guests.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Finance Support
  • Assist with preparing and checking invoices, staff and volunteer claims, and supporting documents.
  • Help check that bank transactions are accurately recorded in the finance system.
  • Keep finance records complete and organised, follow internal policies and procedures, and flag discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Support month-end tasks, basic reporting, audit preparation, the year-end fixed asset count and other finance work as needed.
  1. Fundraising Event Support
  • Assist the Community Partnerships team with preparations, logistics and on-site support for fundraising events and activities.
  1. Data Compilation and Management
  • Compile, clean and update records and databases.
  • Handle personal and financial information responsibly, in accordance with our data protection policies and the PDPA.
  1. Office and Administrative Support
  • Assist with document deliveries, office supplies and filing systems.
  • Support the CEO and Heads of Department with other administrative tasks, with priorities coordinated through your supervisor.

Requirements

You do not need extensive work experience. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, careful with details and dependable.

  • Interest in finance: Good numerical skills and a basic understanding of finance or accounting. Students pursuing Accountancy, Finance, Business or a related field are preferred.
  • Spreadsheet skills: Comfortable using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Attention to detail: Able to spot discrepancies and keep records accurate and complete.
  • Organisation and reliability: Able to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and follow through on commitments.
  • Discretion and integrity: Responsible when handling confidential financial and personal information.
  • Initiative and teamwork: Willing to ask questions, learn new tasks and work with colleagues and volunteers.
  • Flexibility: Available to support occasional fundraising events during evenings or weekends. Time off in lieu will be provided for these hours.

Reporting Line

You will report to the Director (Finance & Governance). For fundraising event support, you will also receive guidance from the Director (Community Partnerships).
