Finance assistant

Your new company

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you'll be involved in the day-to-day running of the finance function, with exposure across purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, banking and month-end.

No two days will be exactly the same. Your responsibilities will include:

• Processing supplier invoices and payments
• Reconciling supplier statements and intercompany accounts
• Managing supplier queries and maintaining accurate account records
• Processing expenses and supporting prepayments and accruals
• Issuing customer statements and following up outstanding balances
• Resolving customer payment and pricing queries
• Raising invoices and credit notes
• Completing monthly bank reconciliations
• Reconciling retail sales, card payments, settlements and associated fees
• Supporting month-end reporting and audit requirements
• Assisting the Finance Manager with ad hoc projects and process improvements

What you'll need to succeedYou'll have previous experience within a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role and be comfortable working across transactional finance.You'll ideally bring:

• Experience with purchase ledger, sales ledger and account reconciliations
• Some exposure to credit control
• Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
• Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software
• A proactive and organised approach to your workload
• Confidence communicating with suppliers, customers and colleagues
• The ability to investigate discrepancies and see queries through to resolution

Experience using Sage 200 would be advantageous, as would exposure to retail finance, intercompany reconciliations or payment-platform settlements.An AAT qualification or equivalent would also be beneficial but is not essential.You'll also have an interest in developing your systems knowledge and using new technology, including AI tools, to help improve efficiency within finance.
