Job Title: Finance Assistant

Location: South Wales

Scope of the Role:
To support flexibly across the finance function, including support across financial accounting, management accounting, commercial finance, purchase ledger, and sales ledger.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the financial and management accounting teams in routine reporting requirements, such as monthly management accounts (reconciliations, accruals, reporting) to support a timely month-end close, company expense reporting, ONS surveys and credit reviews.
• Support the commercial finance team in developing and completing commercial reporting and analysis, including customer and product profitability, margin and price increase tracking.
• Work with the Finance & Operations team to keep manufacturing standards (labour, machine rates, yields), techniques and processes up to date, flagging changes to the Management Accountant. Ensure appropriate communication to key stakeholders of any changes in key processes.
• Prepare accurate and timely product costings for the Commercial team in line with current standards. Challenge assumptions and highlight opportunities to improve margin, communicating these appropriately in the business. Set up and check bills of materials (BOMs) in Sage X3 and support the annual standard cost update.
• Support the testing and implementation of key technology tools in finance, including Yooz, product costing automation tools and business intelligence.
• Provide cover and support to the purchase ledger and sales ledger teams during seasonal peaks and absence, including invoice processing and debt collection.
• Any other duties reasonably requested, commensurate with the role.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Able to work to deadlines, with good time management and organisational skills
• Accounting knowledge including double-entry, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
• Strong Excel skills (e.g. lookups, pivot tables) and an analytical approach.
• Experience of product costing and bills of materials, ideally in a manufacturing environment.

Desirable:

• AAT qualified or studying towards AAT/CIMA
• Experience of Sage X3 or a similar ERP system
• Experience of business intelligence tools
• Understanding of purchase and sales ledger processes
