What they need

Our client, a growing experiential marketing and marketing communications company, is seeking a highly organised, commercially aware and hands-on Finance Executive to join its team.

This role is ideal for a finance professional who understands that in an agency environment, Finance is not just about recording transactions.

You will play an important role in ensuring that projects are financially controlled, budgets are properly managed, clients are billed accurately, vendors are paid appropriately and management has the financial information required to make sound business decisions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Finance Executive will work closely with the Management, Project/Operations, Client Service and Business Development teams to provide effective financial control across the company's projects and day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where multiple projects may be running simultaneously and financial decisions often need to be made quickly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Finance & Cost Control

  • Prepare and monitor project budgets in collaboration with the Operations/Project teams.
  • Track project expenses against approved budgets.
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential overruns early.
  • Review project-related expenses, invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Track project profitability and provide management with timely updates.
  • Ensure project costs are properly captured and allocated.

  • Process and manage vendor and supplier payments.
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable records.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions.

Management Reporting

  • Prepare regular financial reports for Management.
  • Provide reports on revenue, expenses, receivables, payables, cash flow and project profitability.
  • Highlight financial variances and areas requiring management attention.
  • Support Management in analysing financial performance and making informed decisions.

Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure financial transactions comply with approved processes and company policies.
  • Review payment requests and supporting documents before processing.
  • Identify unusual transactions, discrepancies or potential financial leakages.
  • Maintain proper financial documentation and audit trails.
  • Support external accountants, auditors and tax consultants when required.

Business & Operational Support

  • Work closely with Project/Operations teams to ensure financial considerations are incorporated into project planning.
  • Provide financial input during project costing and budget preparation.
  • Support Management in evaluating the financial implications of new projects and business opportunities.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs and improve profitability.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Commercially minded, not just transaction-focused.
  • Highly analytical and comfortable working with numbers.
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger business picture.
  • Proactive in identifying financial issues before they become problems.
  • Comfortable working with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
  • Strong enough to challenge questionable costs or transactions.
  • Comfortable working directly with senior management.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of financial responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree/HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant finance/accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
