  • Broaden your responsibilities with opportunities for career progression

About the organisation

Our client is an established, community-focused organisation supporting skills development and employment outcomes across Western Australia. With a broad range of operations and stakeholders, it offers a varied finance role with opportunities to influence decisions and build your career.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will lead an experienced team of four and take ownership of the annual budget process, long-term financial planning and monthly management reporting.

Combining hands-on financial analysis with leadership and business partnering, you will work closely with senior stakeholders to guide resource allocation, identify savings and improve financial performance. There is scope to take on broader responsibilities over time and pursue further opportunities within finance and leadership.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budget process and prepare long-term financial plans and forecasts.
  • Deliver monthly management reports, variance analysis and financial insights.
  • Partner with budget holders to monitor expenditure, guide resource allocation and identify savings.
  • Lead and support an experienced, largely autonomous team of four.
  • Oversee management accounting activities, including journals, acquittals and budget approvals.
  • Ensure financial reporting meets relevant government requirements.
  • Develop reporting tools and improve financial systems and processes.
  • Support the Director of Finance with strategic initiatives.

About you

You are a CA/CPA-qualified accountant with previous experience in the government sector and a strong understanding of public sector budgeting, financial reporting and accountability requirements.

You take ownership of outcomes, confidently lead financial processes and build effective relationships with stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • At least five years’ accounting experience, with substantial exposure to budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • Demonstrated government sector experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience supporting or managing a team.
  • The ability to translate financial information into clear, practical advice.
  • Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to solving problems.
  • Experience using financial management systems and reporting tools.

Exposure to Power BI or TechnologyOne would be advantageous but is not essential.

What’s on offer

  • Flexible working arrangements, including one day working from home each week.
  • Four weeks’ annual leave, with the option to accrue an additional two weeks by working slightly longer days.
  • Annual leave loading.
  • Leadership of an experienced team, reporting directly to the Director of Finance.
  • The opportunity to influence decisions and improve financial processes.
  • Scope to broaden your responsibilities and pursue career progression within finance and leadership.
  • A full-time opportunity, with 0.8 FTE potentially considered for the right candidate.
