What they need

The Family Co is bringing our accounting function in-house, and we're looking for an experienced Finance Manager to lead the transition and own our day-to-day finances. This is a rare opportunity to build a finance function from the ground up, working closely with our CEO.

About Us

The Family Co is a grassroots not-for-profit community organisation based in Jannali, NSW, serving families across Southern Sydney. We exist so that all children and families have a safe home, strong connections, and opportunities to thrive. We deliver family support, domestic and family violence support, education and training, youth programs, and Aboriginal support services from our Jannali and Hurstville offices.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Manager provides critical financial leadership to support the organisation’s sustainability, integrity and compliance.

This position combines strategic financial leadership with operational excellence. You will work closely with the CEO, leadership team, Board and program managers, providing high-quality financial oversight that supports mission-driven decision making and effective service delivery. Key role responsibilities include:

  • Run fortnightly payroll and manage accounts payable and receivable

  • Prepare statutory financial statements, funding acquittals and compliance reports

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for inclusion in Board papers

  • Partner with the CEO on budgeting and budget reporting and forecasting processes

  • Help shape how our finance function runs as it moves in-house

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

  • Lead organisational budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Develop financial models, scenario planning and variance analysis
  • Support funding submissions and program cost modelling
  • Provide strategic financial advice to support organisational decision making

Financial Control & Compliance

  • Strengthen and maintain financial controls and governance frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and funding requirements
  • Manage GST, FBT and payroll-related obligations

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Optimise financial systems and processes
  • Drive advanced utilisation of Xero to improve efficiency and reporting

Cashflow & Treasury Management

  • Manage organisational cashflow and liquidity
  • Develop cashflow forecasting and sustainability reporting
  • Oversee banking and payment processes

Leadership & Business Partnering

  • Partner with program leaders to support service delivery and funding outcomes
  • Provide financial guidance to the CEO, Executive Team and Board
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organisational growth initiatives

What you'll bring

  • University degree in Accounting and CA/CPA qualification

  • Demonstrated experience as a Finance Manager, or equivalent, leading a finance function and reporting into a CEO

  • Experience with government funding acquittals (highly regarded, not essential)

  • Advanced proficiency in Xero and spreadsheet skills (essential) and comfortable learning new payroll systems

  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of accuracy

  • Confidence working independently and taking initiative

  • Experience managing audits, budgets and financial reporting cycles

  • Current Working with Children Check

  • Satisfactory National Criminal Record Check

·        Not-for-profit experience is a bonus, not a requirement

Why join us

  • Circa $150,000 FTE including Superannuation (pro rata for a 4-day week)

  • A genuinely independent role with direct CEO access

  • The chance to shape a finance function from day one

  • Based in Jannali, NSW

Apply via SEEK. We encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible, as applications will be reviewed on receipt and interviews may commence before the closing date. The position may be filled once a suitable candidate is identified.
