Finance Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Finance Manager to join our team at Afirmo Tax Limited. We are an automated tax and accounting platform for micro businesses in New Zealand, powered by AI. We balance great tech with great people to ensure clients save money and benefit from a highly professional service.

This is a full-time role based in our Auckland CBD office. As Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial accounting function.

What you'll be doing

1. Manage our onboarding processes to ensure that customers migrate off other accounting platforms onto Afirmo in an efficient manner
2. Manage our bookkeeping staff who are employed (or contracted) to support our growing customer base
3. Tier 1 customer support in understanding compliance obligations and ensuring that data in the Afirmo app is accurate and fit for purpose
4. Manage the handover between the sales team, finance team and the tax team to ensure that the financial statements, workbooks, and other financial data in the Afirmo app are sufficient for the tax agency to prepare and file both personal and company tax returns
5. Manage and develop the finance team, providing guidance and mentorship
6. Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making
7. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement efficient financial systems
8. Work with the Software Development team to scope the building of AI agents to automate workflows

What we're looking for

1. Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field
2. 5+ years of experience in a similar finance management role, preferably within the accounting or professional services industry
3. A proactive nature and willingness to get stuck in on process improvements and collaboration
4. Someone who loves tech to solve problems and shows real initiative to get results
5. Proven track record in financial reporting and analysis
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
8. Proficient in the use of financial management software and data analysis tools
9. Thorough understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements
