What they need

Finance Manager

Mount Eden, Auckland | 30–40 hours per week

This is an opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager who wants their work to mean something.

HELP Auckland supports women and children in their healing from the effects of sexual abuse and assault, while working towards the prevention of sexual violence. The organisation is survivor-centred, values-led and deeply committed to the wellbeing of its clients and its people.

HELP is now looking for a commercially capable, values-aligned Finance Manager to lead its finance function and contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

About the role:

Reporting to the Executive Director and leading two finance staff, you will provide the financial leadership, insight and discipline needed to support HELP’s long-term sustainability.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with senior leaders, the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee and Trust Board. This is a senior role, but it is also hands-on. You must be comfortable moving between strategic advice and governance reporting, and the practical accounting work required to keep the finance function running well.

You will:

  • Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring strong systems, controls and continuity
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and long-term financial planning
  • Deliver clear management and governance reporting that supports sound decision-making
  • Oversee payroll, accounts, reconciliations, statutory compliance and the annual audit
  • Support funding applications, contract reporting, risk management and significant investment decisions
  • Improve financial systems and processes while building financial capability across the organisation

About you: You will be an experienced finance leader who combines strong technical capability with sound judgement, warmth and a collaborative approach.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance and CA ANZ membership, or equivalent
  • At least seven years’ financial management experience, including three years in a senior role
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and statutory reporting experience
  • Experience leading an audit and presenting financial information to senior leaders or Boards
  • The ability and willingness to remain hands-on with accounting and financial operations
  • A genuine connection to HELP’s purpose, values and survivor-centred approach

Experience in the not-for-profit, health or social services sector would be valuable, particularly exposure to government contracts, grant funding or Tier 2 PBE reporting.
